Hi, as I'm just sat here nursing 5 (very sore) broken ribs, I thought I'd get my Europe 2014 trip sorted and out of the way as I left 2013 trip a little bit late last year!
Thought I'd take a little drive to Corfu this year as I did Corsica & Sardinia 2012 where the captain of the ship had all the fun :poke:
Trip going to go something like: :driving:
Leave Wakefield Thus 18th Sept 01.00 hrs -For 5am Dover/Dunkirk ferry
Drive through Belgium/ Rastatt Germany
Fri 19th Drive through (Black Forest) Germany to Innsbruck Austria
Sat 20th Drive out through Austria to Italy via Rombo Pass, across the Dolomites mountains to Opatija in Croatia
Sun 21st Sticking to the coastal road south to Markarska Croatia
Mon 22nd South along coastal road through Bosnia to Durres in Albania
Tue 23rd South sticking to coastal road to igoumenitsa ferry port Greece. Ferry across to Corfu
Wed 24th Corfu
Thurs 25th Ferry Corfu to Bari Italy
Fri 26th Bari coast road to Ancona Italy
Sat 27th Ancona to Verona Italy
Sun 28th Skirting around the Dolomites onto Stelvio pass and others to Davos in Switzerland
Mon 29th Taking on the high passes of Switzerland then through the Black Forest along the B500 Known as the forest highway to Strasbourg France "Very Very long day"
Tue 30th Back to Dunkirk
Wed 1st Oct Ferry/Dover Wakefield
I recon I'd of done 4500 miles on this little drive by time I get home. All my hotels are booked up to Corfu as they have not yet released sailing timetables for 2014 from Corfu to Bari Italy But all my routes are there in my New 7" Garmin 2797 (xmas gift wife) should I be worried? just waiting to take me on my merry way

Sounds an amazing trip! I was just discussing the idea of a Euro road trip with SWMBHO last night.

What did you discuss?
Just the principle really and how nice it would be. No specific route at this stage :)

Wow - that's a monster (in a good way) !

Quite a trip - having driven some of those roads. Do agree that it seems strange to spend just one night in Corfu - won't you be knackered by then and need a bit more of a break ? Why Corfu - just a convenient way back to Italy?

We've often spoke about driving to Greece somewhere but never done it - we've driven lots in and around Greek mainland and several islands.

Doesn't your route also give you a chance to visit Meteora in Northern Greece - a quite magical spot that relatively few visit.

Was just looking (again) at Route 500 yesterday - drove it to Baden Baden before and loved it. Also loved being based in Davos for 2 days though the town itself is nothing special.

Hope you have a great trip. :driving:

Hi Jax24
It was my intention to drive to Durres and catch the ferry from there to Ancona then down through Andorrea/Pyrenees Mountains Bilboa home. But I have just returned from a spain/portugal motorcycle trip where I bumped into a Gordie couple from Sunderland who live in Corfu and they thought it would be great idea for me to call in on them in Sept '14  and the last time i looked there were only 14 days in a fortnight.
I also have 50 weeks of the year to take a break 8) There's just so many magical places to visit on the whole journey and for me its all about the driving :driving: and I'll spend ages plotting new routes from A/B which gets hard when you've been so many times but I find I always come across a magical place which is why we travel
I too used Davos for 3 days as a base last Sept to take on the surrounding passes. I've ridden the B500 a couple times on my sports bike so looking forward to driving it in my Z much better than driving the motorway if it is going in the wrong direction
