Just thought that I'd share this with the forum,

SJR Automotive based on Bumpers Lane Chester They are a new BMW and Mini garage and M Specialist.

Took my Zed in last week with a few issues Richard and his team really sorted the car out, I had an issue with the throttle causing the car to run really rough on the overrun, Dropped the car off at 09:30 on a thursday morning and the problem was diagnosed and parts ordered by 12:00. Whilst the car was in for this fault I had the rear disks and pads replaced at the same time.

I can highly recommend SJR Automotive, pricing is very excellent and they beat my regular indi by quite a few £££, needless to say I'm a happy chap.

Cool thanks for posting, take it your usual indie was Trenics?

Yep, used them for a few years with my old BM's but now having found this place and the standard of service they offer I'll be using them again, I know that Richard specialised in the M side of the business so I know my Zed is in good hands. :D

Hi folks - just a post to recommend the guys at SJR automotive. They just did an inspection II (I supplied my own oil), MOT, fit vibra technics engine mounts and fix a rattly passenger side window. All this done for under £700 so very happy indeed about that.

Richard worked on the car as their M specialist - very happy indeed with the service provided - very diligent and thorough. I will certainly be going back there...!

Hi. I also use sjr automotive and cant recommend them highly enough.

I had a problem where the dreaded SMG failed but Richard sorted it all out and at good price. :)

Useful to know.

I've previously used Trenics but also PJ Automotive in Stoke both of which offered good service, but it is useful to have a third option.

My car is at sjr as i type this and i'm not a particularly happy bunny :x Dropped car off for insp 2 a week ago and was told they would ring me if any problems. Didn't hear from them so i rang them. Needed valve clearances done so gave them the go ahead.
Fast forward a week i give them a bell to see how its going only to be told that they haven't even ordered the shims as they have been busy :? And they don't want to give me a date as to when it will be ready.
Think i will be sticking to Trenics.

It sounds like they don't want the job,the main dealer is about 200 metres around the corner from them,so getting the parts should not be a problem.
I would call in and see how they are getting on with the job.
In the past I have used them and they did the work ok and no delays.

They should have the shims in stock for one, likewise with the gaskets

Going to take a trip down tomorrow to see what the craic is and may take my business elsewhere seeing as they don't seem too bothered. If they were that busy, surely they want mine out of the way? Though I don't want them rushing obviously lol
Thank god i didn't give them the go ahead to do the wheel bearings, would be waiting for ages :tumbleweed:

trenics in queensferry? wouldn't trust them with anything. wanted 1800 for a roof motor and couldn't diganose s**t. 20mins with the trusty BMW cable and i was sorted.

Quick update. Popped down to see them today to be told that as long as the shims arrive in the morning, it should be ready for tomorrow afternoon. Don't know how many valves needed adjusting but they said the price for an inspection 2 and valves will be around £750 which i didn't think was too bad.
Also picked up some rear wheel bearings for £88 while i was down there from ECP.

Ask for a report sheet of clearance before and after adjustments.

Fyi these guys did a valve clearance check on mine and adjusted one, although they couldn't tell me any before or after measurements; just that they are within spec.

I'll be honest I didn't get a great feeling from the guys (plus they left the bodywork covered in grease/oil) and it won't be going back there again - I'll take it elsewhere in future.

edit: autocorrect

That's interesting because mine also had oily fingerprints on the front wings a bonnet when it was serviced earlier this year. I can't fault the service they did, but the fingerprints are enough to put me off using them again.

That's pretty much my thoughts, I don't doubt the work they've done under the bonnet is correct and well-done, they get a lot of praise in general, but they don't seem to treat the vehicles they service with much care externally. I understand they don't have a formal cleaning/valet service in place, I don't expect them to either, however general cleanliness and care is expected; and they underperform on that count.

Small update. As I've mentioned previously, I've recently had an insp2 done there. Was told 10 valves needed adjusting but couldn't give me the figures. On a good note, recently found out that there was a small leak from rocker cover so they replaced it for free a couple of months later. Still unsure about the place though to be honest.
