BM Care - Leeds

Post by McDade » Mon Sep 26, 2016 5:15 pm

Hello,

So i've been holding off this for a while, but i thought i would share my experience with BM Care in Leeds (LS28). The specialist in BMW/Merc but also have a Land Rover division

I bought my Zed in April, and immediately thought it would be a good idea to get the car booked in at a reputable indy to give the car a once over. The cost was £55 which i thought was reasonable, as this presumable equated to an hour maybe slightly more labour. Since owning the car i have done around 1200 miles so far, and the car has been parked up more than driven.

The notes i received back was 90% worn brakes both fronts and backs, and a leak in the coolant tank. Got the coolant tank immediately fixed, and with the two bottles of coolant this equated to around £170.

Quotation for both brake sets was around £420 including parts/labour. I did not ask the garage to replace these

The following week i noticed a slow puncture in my passenger rear, and took to be replaced. On inspection it appeared the tyre fitted to the rear was 225 instead of a 255. This was suffering from severe wear on the shoulder, and was illegal. Replaced the tyre, and purchased a new set of rimms with from RFT's. To be fair on this one i should have picked up on this when buying the car!

As this was bought to enjoy, and to become a little pet project, i decided that brakes would be something i could complete myself, with assistance from a trusted colleague. I purchased the new break pads from a local firm (£60 both sets) and booked in an afternoon to replace and refurbish my calipers.

Once got the front caliper off, and inspected the pads, there was at least 50% on them, if not more. As the calipers were getting refurbed, we swapped the brake pads out anyway, then moved on to the rears. These again had more than 50% on them.

Brakes swapped, i booked in for the MOT at another garage. MOT Failed due to corrosion on brake/clutch lines and headlight alignment. Lines were replaced at a cost of £220.

In summary i would have expected the garage to pick up on the tyre and brake/clutch lines. In addition to this, i cant believe they advised that the brakes were 90% worn, when they had much more on.

Cheers

They probably hadnt even looked at the car and then thought they would take you for new brakes. Steer clear from them in the future. An MOT is probably the best inspection you could obtain anyway.
