I don't recall all the details - it was under the previous owners ownership - but as I recall, he had a warranty and put the car in to BMW for some work just before he sold it to me. Some issue was found and it turned into a pretty full rebuild.

Edited to add, I bought it just after the rebuild was completed; it then needed another 1,000 miles running in and service, I completed the thousand miles and had the service done at the same dealer (Cambridge) who did the rebuild.

With respect, it'd be good to know how much of the engine was rebuilt and I'd imagine it'd be easy to find out. If it was say just one main part of the engine i.e. the head then obviously there'd be disparity in mileage between other parts of the engine - if it was a BMW rebuild as opposed to engine replacement then this might be the case. It's a bit like the early e36 328's that were recalled because the cylinder heads were cracking. They were replaced, though not the whole engine, but people would advertise them as having had their engines rebuilt and this wasn't the case.

Just to say I am quite interested in the car and not just chiming in with spare time as a lot of people seem to do in this forum.

Strange that as since you joined up you have total 5 posts enquiring about 4 different cars since last April then no further input on each thread ?
People " chime in " due to it being a forum where thoughts , opinions & information are freely exchanged usually to the good of its members
Welcome btw & hope your search for a ///M is fruitful

OP, I do think it would be worth obtaining more info regarding the engine rebuild, if you can. Particularly for an enthusiast, who would see a well documented and financed rebuild as a big plus point rather than a turn off. My car was similar when I bought it - actually ended up being driven by the previous owner to the dealer where they printed off a full bill of materials for me (the forum at its best!). If it was done under warranty, I doubt shortcuts were taken, so you might just need to chase up the paperwork.

Sorry, i obviously wasn't clear - I have the paperwork/invoice for the warranty work on the engine - I guess the relevant line regarding the question above is "Replace engine with exchange engine"; which I take to be a replacement of the entire engine.

What I do not have have is the background to the issue that led them to replace the engine (bear in mind I didn't own it at the time); though if the invoice can be assumed to be in chronological order it looks like it was the main bearing shell issue, as they changed those first and subsequently changed the engine.

Happy to try to answer any other questions.

Yeah, so basically a <10k engine. Wow. The running in service supports that too - wouldn't be needed for just a top end rebuild, for example.

Little update - I have just spent a not inconsiderable sum having the car professionally cleaned inside and out, a small amount of paint correction done and waxed by Liquid Car Care - http://www.liquidcarcare.com/ - and it looks amazing.

The exterior pictures have been updated to try to show how good it looks, but the weather has not been great, and I didn't have time this weekend to get to a good location, so just on the street.

Car detailed in Knightsbridge, I bet that wasn't cheap!

Err, well, not super cheap no, but not horrible. It wasn't really detailed just cleaned very thoroughly and then waxed - they only had to do a very little work on the paint.

Have to say, that is a stunning car and spec, yes it's not "cheap" but in terms of value.....

Surprised it's not been snapped up!

Unfortunately an ///M will always be a no no for me as I like my autos too much..

OP if your interested....

id be willing to do a deal / swap with my stock seats with are probably as good as you'll get, they are perfect and id guess quite valuable ( 12k miles ) .... It may make the car more attractive to potential buyers, if this is something you may be interested in, drop me a line..... I would imagine this will help this car shift abit quicker as for some reason their are certain changes that seem to "put" people off, imo the car is perfect as it is and I'm shocked its still for sale all these months on BUT.... my car would probably take months and months to sell maybe years due to its changes!

At WARM hot money this is some car!!

Thanks for the offer and I'll certainly give it some thought, however, I think if I start down that road I may as well completely return it to stock and sell all the upgrades separately.

The reality is the market for a car like this (or indeed yours) is very small so it was always going to take a while to sell. I've had several people wanting to do a deal, but fortunately I don't need to sell so I've not been tempted yet. It just seems a shame for it to be sitting around not being used.

I would be interested in the brakes, if you would be willing to part-ex for an OEM set from another 60k car.

Agree that if you don't need to sell you should just hold onto it on the off chance that you can do a hassle-free deal for the car as it is. Better than money in the bank.
