Do we know this car? Or what do we think? E85 2.5 Si

Post by derin100 » Fri Jan 13, 2017 10:09 pm

A friend of mine is looking (with a limited budget) for a decent Z3 or Z4.

She's a single, middle-aged lady and not the most car savvy ( I can't wait until she joins the forum and reads that! ) and so really engine size etc. isn't going to be the most important factor. It's going to be more important that it's in good condition, not needing money immediately spending on it and with a history that would lend itself to good reliability.

This is actually way above her original budget but what do we think?

Funny...I've just noticed your 1st BMW was a 2002 as well!
So was mine...actually my very first car of all...back in 1982 at age 19. A 1974 2002tii in Atlantik Blue.
It was 8 years old then...and I worked out despite the numerous cars I've owned over the years, I think 8 years old might still be the newest car I've ever owned! :o

As you have asked directly for opinion i think the seller is winging it on the price
Its a great colour combo + wheels & piano dash is a touch of class but on 77k drivers seat looks hammered & that won't come back to life with a clean
Its a 2.5si which i wouldn't be put off from as they can offer a great way into a facelift at reasonable money but i wouldn't want any more than £5500in that car :o
The price is heading into 3.0Si territory & they will always be the icing on the facelift E85 cake
Check out forum guys "goldbcfc" own 2.5si that may have 20k more miles on but actually looks a far better buy £ for £

Exactly my thoughts too. A little too pricey for a 2.5Si on 77K.

I'm going to send her the link to "goldbcfc" one now.

Thanks

If our friend Gold is playing around with his asking price then i would forget it :( its naughty
However there are always alternatives & this 3.0Si could be worth chasing up for your friend , it looks well presented & the 2 tone black/imola trim is a delight against the piano black finish
Also has cruise , heated sports seats & Xenon's
If it ticks out on viewing/driving & you get it for £7kish that could prove a great buy

Equally, if not more important as cosmetic appearance is mechanical state.
Make sure you're up to scratch on the usual issues to look for and (i tell everyone this) always always always take a bmw-specific obd scanner with you and get a scan done. The ecu could be hiding a whole raft of issues that a visual inspection won't pick up.
Good luck with the search.

Both look very nice indeed and I'd just spotted the 2nd one. Sadly, her budget doesn't extend to anywhere near that level even though they look good value to me.

Many thanks Chris.
I do have an OBD scanner myself but the problem is I don't actually live anywhere near my friend so it's not easy for me to go with her to view cars.

v easy to use once you know what's involved. bit more difficult translating the codes perhaps. but indispensable imo.
maybe good idea to get her clued up / take a friend who's clued up. i wouldnt ever advocate flying blind buying one of these.
