I am the 5th owner

I purchased the car from forum member Wyldie85 (thread can be seen in my user post history) in February 2016 and have thoroughly enjoyed ownership.

I am a reluctant seller and planned to keep for it’s useful life, however placing an advert for sale here and if I can achieve the correct price, will sell to a willing purchaser on the forum.

Long story short, we live in a development with a single parking space and draconian parking enforcement (my option to purchase a second space did not materialise). The cost of renting a second space in London can make multi vehicle ownership costly. Totally unplanned, we rescued a large dog from Battersea in November and the three of us don’t fit in the zed so it should go to a better home.

The plan is to then sell our second car and get something which may at least almost compare to the zed in terms of driving pleasure. Advice welcome on that front!

When he sold it to me, Wyldie85 put together a very good summary of the vehicle history etc., which I have edited and added to below.

Service History (no service during my ownership Feb 2016 – Feb 2017)

25/08/2006 Pre Delivery Check – Inchcape Retail – BMW Service Centre
26/11/2008 Oil Service at 16942 – Sytner Oldbury
02/08/2011 Inspection 1 at 35,330 – Sytner Sunningdale
17/07/2014 Oil Service at 54339 – Lee Shannon BMW Specialist
* Inspection 2 service is due in 2,825 miles.

Brake Fluid

26/11/2008 - Sytner Oldbury
02/08/2011 – Sytner Sunningdale
17/07/2014 – Lee Shannon BMW Specialist

Other History

Four wheel alignment was carried out 17/07/2015.

The previous MOT was completed in 31/07/2015 with two advisories being the brake pads were low and the wishbone bushes were worn. These were all replaced at a local BMW specialist in Bentley on the 8th of September 2015.

The latest MOT was completed in July 2016 and passed with advisories regarding low tread on the rear tyres. I can either have 2/4 new tyres fitted (Eagle F1s) or adjust the sales price accordingly should the purchaser have their own tyre preference.

The MOT website shows the car initially ‘failed’ due to a faulty dipped headlamp but no remediation work was carried out and it subsequently passed without issue (the garage did not inform me prior to picking the car up). The lights are in proper working order with no warning light on the dash.

Since then I had an issue with a coil pack (cylinder 6) which with the help of YouTube and the members of this forum, I replaced myself. That is the only issue I have had (see my forum posts). The car runs beautifully and starts reliably, especially as it’s purely a weekend driver.

The car is parked in an underground garage when not in use so has no exposure to the elements.

I have covered c. 6,000 miles since purchase, which have predominantly been motorway miles. I drive to the South Coast a fair bit, up to Liverpool and to and from the golf course at weekends.

What little country road driving I have done has been excellent fun but unfortunately isn’t enough to justify the ongoing running costs (including parking) and impracticality of the car.

Modifications

The car had two new rear springs in 2013 as both originals had broken.
The whip aerial has been replaced with a stubby. Original is in the boot.
The MV2’s sit on 10mm (front) and 20mm (rear) spacers.

The number plate bulbs have been changed to non-fault LED bulbs.
The footwell lights have been changed to LED bulbs.
I have fitted an auxiliary input to the stereo (input jack located under the centre console).

Condition

The paint is in very good condition. When cleaned and polished, it is difficult to find fault apart from very minor blemishes - some have been touched up pre my ownership - and I have washed regularly (two buckets), clayed once and polished 2/3 times. As a result the car cleans well and the paint pops. It was in fantastic condition when I bought it and I have tried to maintain that.

The body panels are straight having had any car park dinks removed by the previous owner. The wheels were previously refurbished and in generally very good condition – the offside front has some minor kerbing blemishes.

The car had a winter protection and seal by a professional detailer in September 2015.
The roof has been sealed with the AG convertible kit prior to my ownership and still beads well.

The roof drains along with the rear roof compartment are free of debris and the roof motor is in perfect working order (roof is operational using the remote key). The window has lost its memory function on the passenger side. This can be reinstated with a window reset.

Seats are all original with minimal wear to the seats or bolsters.

The car has been fantastic fun but is no longer practical due to the unexpected addition to the family, combined with expensive parking charges where I live (or worse, on street parking). I would prefer it to go to a forum member based on my own buying experience.

I am located in Brentford, TW8 and generally around evenings and weekends for viewings and test drives. Proof of acceptable insurance will get you behind the wheel.

I purchased the car for £7,500 in February 2016 and have covered 6,000 miles or so in that time. I am asking £6,250, which for the condition of the car I believe is a fair price. Potential purchasers please feel free to PM me or otherwise respond on this thread.

Pictures are attached here and in subsequent replies – unfortunately taken at the weekend when it was overcast and snowing!

Glad to see the Zed still looking in fine fettle!

I can vouch for this car as it used to be mine, it's a good one boys and girls and seems a good way to get into Si ownership.

Let's try and keep it on the forum! :D :driving:

Looks really nice and well kept, but for the sake of accuracy since it had it's last service and brake fluid change in July 2014 it was due an Insp 2 and brake fluid change in July 2016 at the latest. Servicing is done on the service indicator mileage or a max two years interval whichever arrives first.

I don't think it should put anybody off and wouldn't worry me with the mileages involved but I'm sure you wouldn't want to misinform a newbie for example

No problem, it looks like a lot of car for the money considering the low miles and tidy condition, it should sell with spring coming... soon

I've asked my local BMW garage to quote for Inspection II works, I notice you have a Mini in your avatar and I was thinking about a 5 door Cooper S as a replacement for both our current cars - thoughts?

We pre-ordered a new Cooper 5 door when they first came out to try and replace two cars, some thoughts here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=90540&hilit .

I love the drive and so much about it, but the interior is tight for me at 6'3" or for use as a family car, every aspect is 'just' a bit small, door apertures, leg room, boot space. The sports seats really irritate if you share the car as the seats/steering take a whole journey to re-adjust :headbang:

Suffice to say if I'm running in to town I nick my daughters Hyundai, doing anything vaguely practical or want a comfortable journey I use my old Forester Turbo or a fun drive my Z4. Probably should have bought a used Golf gti / A3 / Focus St TBH.

Thanks - very interesting. Have taken a couple for a test drive and they are great to drive. I would be getting a brand new one with service pack and warranty if I take the plunge. Only myself, the missus and the pooch to think about for the next 2 years at least.

Food for thought though - thanks.

2 persons plus pooch = 3 door Mini any day, looks better and front access is much more comfortable. As I said they are a great drive despite my reservations
