Thinking of buying a coupe

Post by Deek » Sun Mar 19, 2017 9:40 pm

I owned a Z3. 2.8 a while back. Current car a Mini Paceman Cooper S. After a recent health scare have decided I want something similar to the Z3 but now need a coupe as wife insists I get something that I can transport the two (small) dogs in.
There are a very few Sport models with low (ish) mileage. Seen a couple used approved in BMW garages but the trade in offered for my car makes them very expensive.
If anyone knows of a decent one, give me a shout. Up to 14k budget. (Assuming I get decent money for my mini)
Cheers
Derek

Welcome and great choice!

You've got a a healthy budget. There was a ruby black available at Sytner Cardiff for £13.5k around 60k miles, manual. It's been at that price for quite a few months, they could be open for a bit of a deal!?!

WBAC might offer more for your Mini than BMW.

Good luck with your search!

What does WBAC mean?
I've inquired about that one. They offered virtually nothing for my car in p ex. Roughly 2.5k less than I've been offered elsewhere.

Sorry, We Buy Any Car. They won't offer the same as a private sale but it would sold fairly quickly.

I almost went to view the one in Cardiff at Christmas, however, I chose to buy an almost identical one through a private sale.

The video they sent me seem to show the car was a tidy example.

I can't be bothered with hassle of selling mine privately to raise funds to buy outside a garage.

Been offered similar trade in from both these garages which is similar.

Is the sytner one worth the extra £3K?

It all depends on what value you put on buying a used approved BMW. You are paying the extra £3k for slightly lower miles, M multi function steering wheel, heated seats, Xenon's and 12 month warranty. You can then choose to keep the warranty going (at an additional cost) if you maintain using BMW/BMW specialist.

I personally found it hard to pay an additional £3k so I bought privately. All down to personal preference.

If you buy from Sytner it gives you a licence to be super picky as you are paying a premium :D

As I mentioned earlier, the Ruby black in Cardiff has been with them for a few months. Maybe a deal could be done.

Totally understand but trading via WBAU and then buying privately is probably more cost effective than buying through Sytner or a garage and no more difficult. Clearly I would say that but in this instance it's true...

Agree and Lambpie is selling a beauty. Great colour (quite rare) , good service history, inspection 2 and MOT just done.

I also agree with LewisB, it is far better to buy a nice one privately. Just wait until the one that you want to buy comes up for sale - could take a few months, but it will be worth it!

The Sytner car was advertised on here for over £4k less by the owner, so why go and pay the extra cash to the Dealer for smiles and cups of tea. £4k could get you 4 years worth of "BMW Warranty" as opposed to 1 year Warranty, supplied by the dealer.

+1 for the private purchase option, so long as you are comfortable judging the car yourself - or know someone who can help you.

When I started looking for a Z4C a local trader had an SE for sale, so I went and looked at it. After a quick drive I knew I had to get one, but not that one! Firstly it was silver with black interior, and I had just spent 6+ years in a silver and black 1 Series! And being an SE it didn't have the M-Sport seats. Plus it had 2 run-flats and 2 non RFTs.

So off I went to AutoTrader, and found a Ruby Black Sport with full main agent SH and similar mileage for just over £2,000 less - so I bought that!

Also sold the 1 Series privately for more than the trader was offering me. Probably saved about £3,000 overall - result!
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

I've paid a deposit on one! Get it in two weeks or so. There has been a lot of negotiation and the main thing is, while I know I'm paying a premium, don't feel I'm being ripped off.
I'll keep you all in suspense and start a new thread once I take delivery.
