Want to be back in an E85 - budget of £4,000
Ten years ago I bought my 2nd ever soft-top after a Mk4 Escort Tennis Cabriolet...

It was a 3.0 with black leather heated sports seats, MFSW, and all I did was fit a weighted shifter then drive the backside off it
With summer beginning to tease us again I'd quite fancy another! I'm aware my budget isn't huge, but I don't think it's unrealistic. Ideally black, dark grey, dark blue or possibly silver and to be in those sports seats again would be a bonus! Ideally mileage as close to 100k as possible, though of course lower would be even better!
I'm based just outside Chester but can of course travel for the right car.
I viewed one locally last week with about 90k on and it was perfect (even had nav) but the chap selling had recoloured his light-grey roof black and it looked awful - reminded me of the nasty vinyl roof on my Escort before I put a mohair one on it [shudder]
Thanks in advance!

I'm sure the roof could be sorted with not much effort if it was the right car.

Not having a pop Windy but you're going to have to accept some compromises @ 4K, if you found your perfect car and it's just the roof colour putting you off I'd be spinning round and wrenching it off him before someone else does.

The colour wasn't the issue - it had been very badly recoloured, so in some places the stuff had been put on so thick you couldn't even see the texture of the fabric anymore. From a distance it looked like a very worn roof but up close it was awful - the shiny bits were just badly applied dye. Shame as the rest of it was good. Oh, except the wheels that had been painted black with a brush...

The guy had used Renovo and I remember reading a post on Detailing World where someone had the same issue...
"the whole thing looks like a mess - odd shades of black that reflect the sun in all directions, patchy, and crispy and scratchy. It doesn't look like a fabric hood at all"
It was a lot worse than this pic...
I'm guessing there was still some waterproofer present in places when it was applied.

Already tried that - he felt it was fine so I'm not sticking £500 onto the price.
I've recently had to sort the roof on a TT, Mini and Mk1 Golf and the mini in particular was a pain and just never looked right, so I don't want the gamble of buying something that can't be sorted.

I've got a 2004 3.0 manual I'm looking to sell. It's Titanium Silver with under 99k miles, no sports seats though unfortunately.
Your budget is a bit lower than what I'm wanting but happy to talk about it, PM me for details if you're interested. I will be putting an ad up on here shortly but haven't had chance to take any detailed pictures as yet.

Just a thought OP, but have you seen this one? viewtopic.php?f=41&t=95842
I know it's a 2.5, but it is a facelift Si so should be pretty near a pre-facelift 3.0 in terms of performance.
