Car ran fine on Saturday, no indication of any problems. Came to start it tonight and it just turns over ( like an old car trying to start ! ) but never catches. Battery is fine ( tried a boosted just in case )

Dashboard gave an engine symbol whilst cranking and codes pulled say "P0243 Turbo/Super Charger Wastegate Solenoid "A"'. It's a 2013 facelift 2.0 with 33k on the clock.

Any ideas before ringing the dealer in the morning  ( any way to get it to run so I can get it there ! )

I've checked all of the fuses related to the engine management symbol ( man that fuse box is crazy ! )

Thanks

G

The wastegate solenoid problem will still allow the car to start ,

Sounds like you have another problem that isn't twigging the code on your diag machine ..

I would suspect fuel pump(s)

Thanks for your reply. It does 'feel' fuel related. I want to pump the pedal ( old school ) to make it fire. There is no smell of fuel at all ( not sure if new cars ever do these days ? ). I also can't here the electric whir noise, sound like some kind of actuator or priming when normally engaging the ignition. ( no idea what causes those noises ). Anything i can check re fuel pump ? I guess fuse...
Any other incidents of this, i know the 35 had issues, but this is the 2.0, V little info from a quick Google.

Oh might be worth mentioning, i took off the two rear wheels in between the car being fine and now won't start ( just to clean them ). Is there any kind of accident type switch or trigger that could have been triggered to isolate the fuel ?

Taking the wheels off shouldn't cause any issues at all..

From what you describe it does sound like a fuel/immobiliser problem..

Apart from the fuses there is nothing else you can really try..

You could try just lifting off the battery negative terminal for 5 mins, just see if it resets the modules ...

It's clutching at straws but anything else will need a tech I suspect

Thanks Z4M-2006.

No luck on the battery disconnect. Local specialist also suspects fuel pump but cant fit me in until next week :(

Out of interest, any idea what the pump type thing is in the boot of the E89 Z4 between the battery and the rear of the car ? One end has liquid in it and lots of wires and relays etc ( almost the size of a rugby ball ) ..... Mines quit corroded - so just wondering what it is ?

Thanks

G
