brittas wrote: Tue Apr 25, 2017 12:24 pm I believe the 28i has different pistons and compression ratio. possibly different injectors . This explains why I will be looking at 290+ hp when getting my 28i remapped tomorrow (hopefully).Front brakes also a bit bigger on 28i. I am a bit concerned myself with this engines strength.

These guys really pushed the engine beyond its limits though lol.

Hi, You're mistaken about the engine differences-in the uk the n20 engines are identical, no differences whatsoever

Hmmm well my 28i has just mapped tp 303 hp with 378ft lbs torque. Why does the 28i map higher than the 20i If all components are the same?

Did you go for it?
I'm booked into a place in Blackburn called ADE Tuning. Quoted me £450 with dyno before and after.

Will post results but he said it will be around 260bhp :driving:

Not 100% sure on this but the dme may be different & allow a higher level of tune, mechanically they are identical.
Some of it depends where you go & what they consider safe, some places have optimistic dynos as well.
What level did they tell you they could take a 20i to?

They can't get the 20i to the same hp as 28i. There must be some difference? 28i might have larger exhaust perhaps?

Real OEM has been wrong before and could be wrong again. I've said this previously but was politely 'gunned down'...

Structurally, the difference between these engines is only in the form of pistons. In the 28i, there is a smaller volume of piston recess in the piston crown. Therefore, the compression ratio can't be altered. Hence, 28i models can be remapped to a higher bhp.

UPDATE:

Just picked up the car and got it dyno'd before and after.

185 to start and 261bhp to finish :o

If you haven't had it done I'd 100% recommend, feels like a completely different car (in a good way).

Surprised a souped up Mitsubishi Lancer on the way back to work

Good going. Same output as Smartbear. How long did they have the car for? I know Smartbear has mentioned Evolve take 4 hours. How about these guys in Blackburn?

Also, was it £450 all in, or was it +vat?

Hi, what makes you think the 28i Pistons have a smaller recess compared to the other models? Link to source?

There were a couple of tuners who had categorically stated this on their website. I'm at work at the mo, so will try to find them later!

Here's a comparison of all 3 n20 engines showing an identical 10:1 compression ratio for every variant

It was £450 all in, not bad at all.

I dropped my car off on the Thursday morning and they had it back to me lunchtime on Friday. Plus they had a courtesy car which was a massive help.
