Carly will not connect

Post by mcbutler » Sat Aug 12, 2017 5:19 pm

Took the plunge, bought Carly Pro and the gen2 bluetooth connector from their store.
Been sat in the car for 3 hours arseing around with it but no way in hell will it connect.
I get a connection to the adapter but nothing from the car at all, hence its useless!
It keeps telling me the engine is not recognised, it is an N52 23i (2.5L) 2009, which is in their database!

Does anyone know how to force the app to recognise the engine, it has two options, auto recognise and 'all', neither work.
Tried it with engine on and engine off.
Re binding bluetooth dozens of times
uninstalled carly, reinstalled carly, restarted phone yada yada.

Tedious, any ideas guys???

Tried a couple of bluetooth dongles before, but neither worked with the E85. Went for the wifi ones, and work every time. Are you sure the bluetooth version is compatible with your E89/phone?

What phone / tablet are you using? if it's Apple then you can only use a Wifi OBD dongle.

Hello my first official Carly dongle didn't work but I couldn't get it to connect at all..second one works perfectly every time..I wasted a lot of time on the first one...not sure if you could have a half working unit..just a long shot..

I am on Android, adapter is the one listed on their site so its the correct one.
Tried a different android device today and nothing connects with that either.
Got to be the adapter.....

Investigating further.....

OK, I borrowed a bluetooth dongle from an app called ENGIE.
Carly connect to the dongle (adapter) and the car and I have managed a small bit of coding, digital speedo and blank screen removed from dash display.
So, unless I am very much mistaken the Carly dongle is a dog.

Back it goes....
