Vibrating wing mirror

Post by Crazycrackers » Fri Sep 23, 2016 6:42 pm

I can't seem to find a definitive answer on this.
My driver wing mirror starts to vibrate/wobble like hell at speed. Is this likely to be a clip or glue issue? What's the fix please before I attack with my bear hands and break something.
Cheers.

It's the glue. They're well known for it and unless you remove it now, it may well come off at speed and damage the side of the car, as has happened to others. You can reattach it with silicone or heat resistant glue. The pad you find underneath the glass is the heated mirror element and it's the continuous heating cycle that degrades the oem glue. The other side may not be far behind!

Is this en e89 (as you've posted in that section)? As this uses a clip mechanism.

It's an E86, apologies for putting in wrong section. I'll get some silicone in it tomorrow. Does the mirror just pull out or do I have to flick any catches or the like?
Cheers.

No catches or clips on the E85/E86 mirrors. When mine started to wobble, I pulled over and it literally fell off into my hand as soon as I touched it. Don't attempt to peel off the black sheet left behind as that is the heating element. Just glue the glass back onto it.
