New tyres are on

Post by marchantsuk » Tue Jul 19, 2011 10:41 pm

Finally got them fitted, changed from the run flats to a full set of Vredersteins. One word WOW, reading all the previous threads I couldn't believe there would be so much difference. If you are wearing a set of run flats then make the change, you won't be disappointed.

I think all those who have made the change will agree with you whilst all those who haven't will wonder what we are on about. :driving:

How about BMW admitting their mistake and recalling all Z4 to make the change at no cost to owners!

I'm now in a dilemma, have just ordered a 120d M Sport, which will come with RF's, do I also make the change to Vred's on this?

The 120d might have a totally different ride on RFs to the Z4 and I've heard that some other newer RFs are a lot better than the Bridgestone OEM RFs on the Z4. Have you driven a 120d on RFs? If not I would so pronto if they're an option and not standard on the 120d.

I've had a 320 D with Sports suspension on 19" wheels and it was not a problem TBH. It did tramline but I do like a faily firm ride. I've also driven loads of mile in 120d M sports from rental companies (literally 1000's of miles) and I thought that it suited the car absolutely fine.

You have remember that a lot of critism over run flats was aimed at the 5 series of the time (the suspension was not originally designed for run flats) by the time the 3 series was out, it was fine. We're now on 2nd generation runflats which are much much better than they used to be.

Fai enough if you run a full on sports car and on track, its not a best option. As an everyday runabout, I much prefer runflats (2 punctured tyres in the last 2 year on a Golf 6 is a complete pain in the butt).

Cheers!

Thanks, all.
I did test drive a 120d (albeit a hatch) but yes it did have RF's on. The ride was not as noticeable as the RF ride in my Zed, as far as I know the 120d comes with RF's as standard so no financial benefit to changing on the order.

How much would a set of Vredersteins cost and where did you get them? I have the runflats on mine but only been driving a few days so I don't have an opinion either way...yet!

I'm considering replacing the RTFS, what type of Vreds did you fit and do the tyres offer rim protection?
