Tyres! Again - 2011 best Z4 Coupe tyre
Guys,
I must buy new rear tyres and while I am at it I may aswell buy new fronts also.
I currently have the standard awful Bridgestone run flats which makes the ride hard but more importantly it is a lethal weapon in the wet!!
What tyres does everyone recommend????
Looked at old posts but they were back in 2009. There must be new, better tyres out since then.
Also wanting to know if what ever tyre you recommend helps prevent the car from aquaplanning!!
Cheers,
Gordon

Do you want 'best' or 'best value for money'?
Best might be the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport/Continental SportContact 5P, but you'll pay £200-£250 per corner - assuming they're available in your size.
Best value for money, may be the Hankook S1 Evo, F1 Asymmetric 2, SportContact 3?

no tyre will STOP aquaplaning....
you will however aquaplane more when your tyres are low on tread...
if you wanna stick with run flat the michelin PS2 ZP's are great

Yokohama Advan Sport is considered to be lot better on the wet than potenza re050a with almost the same grip on the dry road
although its non-RF

I don't mind paying money for a good tyre. This is a sports car and should have tyres to compliment.
Is there a huge difference between Michelin PS2 ZP run flats in comparisment with Michelin Pilot Super Sport/Continental SportContact 5P??

I can only comment on the difference between bridgestone run flat that came as standard on my car and the michelin zp's I am running...
night and day difference in ride and handling, harshness disappeared, no tramlining - in fact all the things the non-runflat advocates harp on about I get with the ZP's.
I noticed the difference driving off the tyre changers forecourt - even mrs gannet noticed backing off of the drive

I would have thought Vredestein Sessantas would be the best value for money replacement. All 4 tyres fitted for around £450...

Going by the feedback on this forum the best value would be Falken FK452.
But the best money can buy would prob be Michelin Pilot Super Sport... however if you never drive you car hard/ to the edge would you notice its improvement say over the some Eagle F1's which cost £100 less.

Run flats or non run flats....I really can't decide!!
If I buy run flats, I only need to order 2 new tyres! Big plus
If I go with non run flats, I would need to replace all 4 tyres including my 2 fronts which have at least 1-2 years on them.

Re: Tyres! Again - 2011 best Z4 Coupe tyre
when i come to replace my tyres i will definately want to retain run flats, just go for a good 1s
having said that, i have no issues with my standard run flats, may be i don't drive it as hard as others - what is tram lining? maybe when i change i will realise

Car tends to follow ruts in the road etc for instance the inside lane of many motorways has ruts worn in by all the lorries - my car used to be terrible over these (especially when accelerating joining a motorway).Taz x wrote: what is tram lining? maybe when i change i will realise

I agree the Bridgestone Potenza's are ill-suited to the wet ... indeed, that they are dangerous in the wet.g0g5 wrote: I currently have the standard awful Bridgestone run flats which makes the ride hard but more importantly it is a lethal weapon in the wet!!
[ Haven't tried other tyres on my Z4 C, but am interested to hear recommendations ... possibly for other run-flats ]

Re: Tyres! Again - 2011 best Z4 Coupe tyre
Does the michellin ZP run flats grip well in the wet or again are they just as the Bridgestone Potenza's?
I am definately not buying the Potenza's again!
Either 2 x Michellin ZP run flats to replace the potenza's or 4 x non run flats - Michellin PS2 or Pirelli Sotlozero 2.
If someone can convince me Michellin ZP run flats are very good and a hell of a lot beter than the Potenza's then I would swing towards that....save me buying 2 new front tyres which have plenty tread left.
