rims

Post by ozz4 » Sat Nov 05, 2011 12:18 pm

Hey folks

I am going to get flamed but here goes anywayz

I know PCD for Z4 is 5x120and offsets are approx 30mm front and 40mm rear

My Q is how big have other members gone with their rims and then what offset

I have the factory upgrade 19' on mine with 265's on rear and 245's on front I was looking at some 20's

Any ideas

20's.... think you may have a problem with rubbing on lock.

Not to mention the drop in ride quality and performance.

does that not depend more on tyre width, tyre profile, rolling radii, wheel width, and offset, rather than just straight forward wheel diameter?

Well to get the same rolling radius as a 255/35R18 (317.85mm) you would need a 255/25R20 (317.75mm) or 265/25R20 (320.25mm) and 25 profile tyres have got to be uncomfortable.

Thanx for the heads up folks
I was thinking 285/20R/20 rear with a 28mm offset and 245/20 front with a 30 offset

20 profile tyres on a Zed. Either you intend to just drive it onto show stands or have no teeth.

I'm running 20" 35 profile on an XF Jag with normally amazing ride quality and you can clearly tell they are low profile Vs standard 17/18"

I'd stick with 19's and get a decent balance of look, tyre and rim width (without rubbing) and performance/comfort.

Words of wisdom and I hear you BUT I want 20's
Is there a member out there that has bolted them up and want to disclose the offsets
I dont really want to get it wrong

google 'wheel offset calculator'. you can put in your existing wheel details, and the new wheel details and it will tell you how much clearance you will gain or lose and whether the wheels sit further out of the arches or not. You can experiment with different tyre widths and profiles to see what you need,

I assume you've got the newer e89 Z4 if you're talking about factory 19's, and as the tyres fitted for the factory upgrade had 225/35r19 on the front and 255/30r19 on the rear I also assume you've put different tyres on (245/35r19 front & 265/30r19 rear).

To keep the same OEM overall dimensions with 20" wheels you'd need to go to 225/30r20 front and 255/25r20 rear.

If you want to go for wider tyres too (285 will likely foul the rear arches/suspension), then you'd have to get 20 profile tyres all round, and I can't seem to find anyone who sells them.

Wouldn't want to hit a pothole with 20 profile tyres :(

BMW didnt do an 18" CSL wheel upgrade on the Zed. All genuine CSL wheels are 19" :)
