Winter Boots
OK, so I know it's not 7C yet but it was a nice day so I put my winter boots on, cleaned the 108s and put them away for the winter.
Has anyone else changed over yet?

Re: Winter Boots
Last weekend - not 7 during the day, but it is when I get up and get home... And as someone else pointed out on another thread, the ground will be colder than the air. Apparently

Mine aren't on yet, but I also heard cold weather's coming for early December, so probably going on next weekend.

Re: Winter Boots
Just had my winter tire put on yesterday. This will be my 3rd winter season on them and it looks like I will get a 4th winter out of them.

Yes- today.
Michelin Alpin4 17" 31psi front 32psi rear.
it feels a bit wishy-washy after F1 asymmetrics 34psi all round.
nice and quiet though
Does anyone know if I should be running winter tyres harder or softer than summer tyres?

Re: Winter Boots
x2 - my 3.0si says the normal (RFT) pressures should be 2.3 bar front and 2.6 bar rear - which are 33 and 38 psi respectively. I always though the rear was high, but went with it, and have inflated my non-RFTs 225 17 45 winters to the same pressures... But I am worried my tyres will explodeFinisterre wrote:

Not seen a definitive answer to this anywhere - sorry for the hijack

Re: Winter Boots
Bless the internet.
I have seen add a couple of pounds and drop a couple both stated as universal laws.
I have seen higher pressures are better because it aids the sipes in exposing their edginess - but I also suspect that it will be a six of one half a dozen of the other. I definitely can't see how over-inflation is going to help on ice.

Re: Winter Boots
I ran the same pressures as recommended for summer in mine last winter. Still too mild here to change over although I'll possibly do so this week: it was the last weekend in November last year that we got our first serious dumping of snow (1'+) so I don't want to be caught out.

Re: Winter Boots
Are people changing to improve winter ride or to prevent damage to alloys on salty roads? Does everyone have a winter set?

I never expected Central Scotland to be too warm for winter boots. Everytime I've considered doing the swap the next day has been about 14 or 15degs's!

Re: Winter Boots
Maximum rated pressure on a standard tyre will be about 50 Psi, it will however be indicated on the sidewall so check, I over inflated the fronts by a few Psi as they felt a bit like jelly, rears are at the rated pressure. Was quite chilly this morning 5 deg or so and they felt really good, loads of grip.Bing wrote:x2 - my 3.0si says the normal (RFT) pressures should be 2.3 bar front and 2.6 bar rear - which are 33 and 38 psi respectively.
