What Tyres???

Postby Rye - Wed Jun 20, 2012 2:05 pm

Need to buy some new rears at the min as mine are down to the threads on inside edge! woops! tyres are the standard 255 40 18 on my Z4MC

Just wondering what people would recomend buying, currently running conti sports and dont know wheather to go for the same again or change to something else?

prices on camskill are varying from roughly 150 to 200+ so im not too fussed on price or have a specific budget, just after a great tyre.

experiences or recomendations on the following would be helpful:

falken fk52
conti sports
dunlop sports
vreds
pirelli pzero

cheers

Conti Sport 5P's if you can afford them. Not sure if they do Z4M size tyres yet though. If they don't Conti Sport 3's.

I have Falken FK452s on my M5 and have been very happy with them. They were the best bang-for-the-buck when I was buying, and after 12,000 miles there's still 4mm on the rears and 6mm on the fronts. They give good grip in both wet and dry and seem to be pretty predictable (they've never scared me!)

I believe that they have recently been replaced by the FK453s. When the Bridgestone RE050As that are currently on the Z4M need replacing (soon - they are at 3mm now) then I'll probably go for the Falkens.

Ah nice, thanks for the advice on the falkens!

Was wondering what people thought about them on here and with them being on the rears I was wondering how long they would last, but 12k miles sounds good to me!

I did have fk452's on my golf anniversary and they didnt dissapoint and were surprisingly grippy and predictable aswell, especially for the price

just seen this thread in the M specific section and seems a couple of guys are running slightly larger widths with lower profiles....

if this seems to be a good option then i could go for the Michelin PS3's at £200 each?? they are 265 35. Any one running same widths on the rears and have had any issues at all? Or have pics with some larger diameter tyres on would be helpful?

Hankook S1's will be my next purchase. Check the test results...

And only £485.20 for all four corners on Camskill.

Unfortunately the S1 Evo 2 is not available in the ///M's sizes, so not much use for the OP :poke:

Just watch out for their high wear rate - as you'll still save over the bigger brands, but by not as much if you have to change them 30% earlier. The Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2 get good reviews everywhere in almost all performance areas - although are about £100 more expensive for a set (for a non-///M).

If the ///M owner downsizes to non-///M tyres then the speedo inaccuracy will increase.

Mine is more accurate with 265/40 rear than with OEM sizes.

have you had any problems running slightly bigger widths on the rears and would you recomend going for some 265's ? And what tyres are you running ? :)

I'd like to throw in my vote for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas (stock rims). Just put a set on mine and they make the Z fun to drive again! They were even scrubbed in (mostly) after a few days of ... enthusiasm.

Cheap, seem like less tramlining than with the stock RFTs, very grippy and look cool as all hell. Only question is how long they will last. I have a history of going through tyres quickly. :D

going from 255/40 to 255/35 will mean when the speedo says 70mph it's actually be 67.24mph, so if car manufactures put the speedo out by what is suggested to be around 3mph then the speed will be more accurate?

I checked on the following site: http://www.alloywheels.com/Tyre_Calculator
