225 an 255 Michel Pilot Super Sports - Ready to order...

Post by Maniac » Sun Sep 29, 2013 8:21 am

So the Michelin PSS seem widely regarded on here and I'm going to order a set. Despite having loads of tread on the RunFlat Pirelli P0's I have now, I'm fed up with the rock hard ride so I'm going to put those on my spare wheels and get 'em sold. The cheapest I've found online are from lovetyres.com who also seem more up to speed on DSR's etc which makes me feel like they're reputable.

Product Details Stock Availability Qty Sub Total

Michelin Pilot Super Sport Size: 255/30 R19 Y (91 XL) 3 in stock - Same day dispatch if ordered before 4pm 2 of = £408.96 (£204.48 ea)

Michelin Pilot Super Sport Size: 225/35 R19 Y (88 XL) 2 in stock - Same day dispatch if ordered before 4pm 2 of = £352.86 (£176.43 ea)

With £12 postage.

Can anyone beat that/anyone seen a lower price anywhere?

Yes they're a few quid dearer and they're not up to speed on DSRs which makes me a bit 'mmm'. They quote a large restocking fee. You can't do that under the DSRs until after 7 days. There's a few other bits in their returns or terms that raise an eyebrow for me. Love tyres are much more up to date. I check things like this when ordering online as I've been burned before.

Whoever you get to fit the tyres make sure they know what they're doing and have the right kit, its not unknown to for a fitter to use a bar to get runflats off with inevitable consequences :o

I've used Event Tyres in Trafford for the OH's car and they seem like they know what they're doing. Just chatted now and they have offered a slight discount to bring the figure, including fitting to £826. A horrendous figure when I spent over a grand just a year ago, but I plan on putting the run flats on the 296 wheels and selling them as a set due to the low miles on them. Get a few quid back. I'm looking forward to experiencing the improved comfort and grip these Michelins reportedly give.

As an extra bonus Michelin are offering a fuel card incentive which means I'll get around £60 back in fuel vouchers. Nice. Only one tankful on a 35i and around 300 miles lol but better than nothing!

Just waiting to hear back from Michelin on the offer to ensure I qualify. First they responded with hardly any helpful information, and attached what they called the claim form, which turned out to be an internal Michelin database with what is presumably sensitive information!! Then a second reply with a PDF claim form that was for Goodwood Road Racing club members only.. sigh. Now waiting for another email for the correct form, and, for them to tell me what on earth they're on about.

I hope they make better tyres than they train their admin staff...

If you're a BMW Car Club member then you can use this form (it's what I used earlier in the year) to claim up to £75. This is not restricted to specific tyre dealers.

The other vouchers are garage specific and there was a list on Michelin's website showing those in the scheme.

Thanks mmm-five. I got that about half an hour before your post so I'll crack on with ordering those. Mobile fitter so might have them on for the weekend!

Well that's it, I've placed the order. My bank account has just lifted from the vault floor with the loss of all that cash. These had better transform this car or I'll be 'mardy' for months... and y'all know how I can get!!

Used Event a few times now, first time was to fit tyres on a new set of AC Schnitzers so was pretty aprehensive but needent have worried and they did a top job. Second time was the all seasons on new rims for the Z3, all went well except they put one of the tyres on the wrong way round  so its worth checking this before the fitter leaves, its easily done. They came back the next day and swapped the tyre round. I've found they genuinely care to ensure no damage to the rims especially if you've spend a few grand of a set. Unsure if its true that if a fitter does damage a wheel they have to pay for the damage themselves and not the company so I guess an incentive.

Out of curiosity I just checked out these on the black circles website. Wow, well over £100 more for the set. Lovetyres.com has the right name!

BlackCircles have never been competitive in any of the sizes I've needed -not even when they had the 2% Pistonheads discount code.

Costco used to be good value for Michelin, but now - even with the regular 20-25% discounts they offer - they still end up being about £20/corner more expensive than Camskill (including fitting).

Which Vreds? Quatracs, Sessantas, Vortis?

I'm sure someone on here will have used them at some time.
