Z4M vs. Stock Z4 Tyre Set Up

Post by kis » Mon Feb 06, 2017 9:44 am

Further to a post I made on the Buy and Sell side regarding some tyre fitments, I learned something new about tyre sizes. So the M spec wheels are the same as a standard spec Z4. Assuming they are 18" diameter with the usual PCD and bore. 8J and 8 & 1/2J for the front and rear respectively. (Lets ignore the 224's for now which have the 9J rear and for that matter the difference in wheel offsets).

M spec for tyres run on a higher profile. So a usual 18" set up is as follows:

225/40/18
255/35/18

The M set up:

225/45/18
255/40/18

What are the advantages and disadvantages of running either set up? Based on a scenario where a stock (non M) Zed is being used.

Thanks :)

Its my ageing bones you know  other benefits are better protection for the alloys themselves on our badly maintained roads & for those who want the look of lowering without actually doing so the larger sized rubber also helps close the arch gap  not that you would need that now J :P

Good points to note, thanks! I had a quick look at prices as well, unfortunately they're going up in price instead of down :headbang:
But I think having the large profile would probably help, with roads being in the condition they are, and also for the well-being of the alloy itself! Just an added bonus to fill the arch gap a little bit :)

I run 224s on my 3.0 with M size tyres and find they look good and the ride is much improved.
