Tyre / alloy help
Literally got no clue when it comes to this subject and a bit of a Z4 newbie (approx 4 months) so looking for some good advice -
Currently have the below on my red E85 2.0i roadster...(note - the car has a combination of different tyre types).
Looking to get some new tyres and eventually new alloys....recommendations please...this is my main car and used daily...

Tyre / alloy help
Hi there. What is your budget for tyres and what is your driving style ? You have MV2 alloys and the tyre in your photo is 255/35 R18 so I presume you have a staggered set with 225/40 on the front ? If so and you buy the same size tyres again then this will dictate that if you change alloys in the future then you will have to stay with the same size alloys too.
I have MV3 alloys with Avon ZZ5 tyres in the above sizes front and rear and can recommend them if you are looking for excellent performance and longevity at a reasonable price.

Yep that is spot on...got 225/40 at the front. What is the benefits of this staggered set up?patriot66 wrote:Hi there. What is your budget for tyres and what is your driving style ? Style 326s they are called
I wouldn't be surprised if driving over that block paving has cracked both rear wheels though

More grip in the rear end (or, understeer at the front) probably the second.... it's the standard setup from the factory for these wheels.stevedavo86 wrote:Yep that is spot on...got 225/40 at the front. I personaly like a square setup more (same same size front & back) as it gives a more natural handling.

As you've mentioned you are looking for new alloys I would be tempted to keep the existing tyres providing they are not on their limits and once you have settled on which new wheels you like then you will know what tyre size needed. otherwise you may end up buying twice if the tyres won't fit the new wheels.
I have purchased a set of 107 alloys in anthracite without tyres and am thinking of Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres for them as they seem to get good reviews from the guys on the forum and aren't massively expensive.

E85. 2.5i SE. 2004. Sterling grey, anthracite 107s, black leather heated seats, hardtop, sound gen retrofit, matt black grills, stubby, zhp, cupholders retrofit, roof motor in boot.

They're style 326 and would fit an E85 - Sizes / offsets as below with tyre sizes that I use on mine.stevedavo86 wrote:Clocked a stunning z4 at the gym tonight and really like these alloys....what style are these and would they fit an E85?
19/8.00 ET29 235/35
19/9.00 ET40 265/30
If you're getting new tyres for the current wheels then they obviously wouldn't fit as the 326s are 19" and yours are 18".
A similar wheel that is available in 18" or 19" would be the 313 - shown below on my E85 (they are the 19" ones)

Not sure you'll have enough clearance running 19" on ET29? (for the front)? Something to definitely check prior to purchase!
In regards to tyres, I'm mentioning everything that's been said before. But in price ascending order (cheapest first!) and commonly used in the forum.
Uniroyals RS3
Vredestein's
Goodyear F1
Michelin PS3 / PS4
All popular and all good. Just depends on your budget.
