I still have the original tyres on my car.. the dreaded run flats.
Sorry to say its only covered 15,000 miles from new and was registered in 2006.
The tyres i believe are past their used date and on that basis, and for safety reasons should i not be changing them?
They still have the pips on the sidewall and as you can imagine look like new.
If i should be changing them what tyres would you guys suggest/recommend?
The tyres are 225/40/R18 88W ( front) 255/35/R18 90W (rear) rft, as you can imagine i don't want run flats again!
I intend to use the car more rather than get rid hence my reason for concern.
Any advice guys would be appreciated.

What's your question?? Enough discussion on this forum about brands & types for your new tyres. 12 years old is too old for a tyre, especially on a sports car like the Z4. Replace ASAP.
My suggestion would be Michelin pilot sport 4 or continental sportContact 5

Hi, at that age I guess your tyres have started the fossilisation process
As mentioned, your car will be safer & more enjoyable on new non-runflat rubber

Always amazing to see a car with such a low history. What's the service history like? Thinking you might want to change some of the consumables as well...

Hiya - glad you've still got the 2 litre - it's a real beauty.
Sensible to change the tyres. I'd look at Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric 2s as a replacement. they are terrific tyres for road use and quiet. I've had three sets and Swiftly put me on to them initially. Have used them on my 2 litre and 3 litre and just ordered 4 for my M after a lot of discussion and deliberation with a tyre specialist. Was tempted to go for Michelin Pilot Super Sports but you know what, I've used the GoodYears and been extremely pleased with them in all weather conditions (some very extreme) and I feel very good about my decision. They are very popular on the forum and are a great tyre at a great price.
At the minute they are a reasonable cost as they have been superceded by Assymetric 3s (which I have no experience of). Maybe I'll try the
Michelins in the future but for now I'm very happy - getting them fitted Monday £542 for the M (should come in cheaper for your size wheels - though I negotiated a good deal with a 4 wheel check on my alignment - any adjustment to be made after April 18th as I'm having further precautionary work done on the M).
All the best with your choice

Paul have you got the exact spec of tyre. I cannot match the W rating front and rear more options with a y rated tyre. Am a little confused as the back are different size to front.paulgs1000 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2017 11:46 pm Hiya - glad you've still got the 2 litre - it's a real beauty.

'Y' Rated tyres are better anyway mate so don't worry about the 'W' it just means they are rated to a higher speed.marypoppins wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2017 12:35 pmPaul have you got the exact spec of tyre. The front tyres will indeed be narrower than the rears as the rears are staggered, if you match the new tyres to the same size as you currently have you will be fine. Y rated XL tyres are preferred in non run flats

Most of the AutoExpress/AutoBild tyre tests put Continental SportContacts at the top or at least in the top 3 of their reviews.
I had to buy new rear tyres recently and I wanted to keep the costs down a little, but am always careful with my tyre choice and read lots of reviews. I settled for Falken FK-510 as a cheaper alternative - well a mid-range tyre. So far I'm really impressed with them. They're quiet (significantly less than the previous Michelins) and very grippy. Might be worth considering if you're changing all four at once.

What's the problem you're having Paul? Let me know if this doesn't cover it
225/40/R18 front - speed ratings they come in will be fine (for 2 litre) as will XL (which sometimes is the only option) 99 or 95 fine.
255/35/R18 rear - they come with rim protection which is a big positive as well

You could also consider Falken 453s - they are well thought of and might be cheaper (though I found F1 A2s at a similar price)
I used them before the GoodYears - found they didn't last as long.
It's all relative - SK93 went to the Isle of Skye run one year. He led for a fast part of the run and set a cracking pace, I've followed him on occasions and he certainly does not hang about. His tyres . . . I was amazed to see unmatched budget and names you'd seldom see on other Zeds - he wasn't fazed at all by folks concerns for named brands Cool eh
And something else . . . the GY F1s take time to 'bed in' don't be put off by their sliding about at first - takes a couple hundred miles before they start to work then all's sorted. Don't know why this should be but it's been reported by a few folk.
