I hung out of the door checking front and rear for buckling but look fine...steers straight as well. Think there's a smidgen of 'out of balance' though

On your photos the tyre sidewalls look to 'slope' inwards towards the shoulder of the tread as if the tyre width is not adequate for the width of the wheel rim. That 255/35 R 18 is the recommended size on the rear on a 8.5J rim. Are your rims wider ? If your tyres were wider and the sidewalls were more vertical then would the 'rim protector' lip possibly have offered more protection around the circumference of each alloy ?

I dont think a rubber bead or bulging side wall would have protected the rim from a whack like that tho?

Pretty sure they're 9.5"rears. They do slope in I suppose. I might invest in some of those plastic rim protectors in future but as Ronk said i don't think the rim protector on the tyre would have helpedpatriot66 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2017 9:18 pm On your photos the tyre sidewalls look to 'slope' inwards towards the shoulder of the tread as if the tyre width is not adequate for the width of the wheel rim. You will only really know if damage has occurred to the set up if you start to see uneven tyre wear or the weird behavior from the car at speedLeesfarm07 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 28, 2017 8:00 pmI hung out of the door checking front and rear for buckling but look fine...steers straight as well. I must admit I was surprised it didn't pop the tyre or something as it was one heck of a clout
I really think it's time for a suspension overhaul anyway but in the mean time I'll keep my eye on the tyre wear cheers
