White car thefts in Manchester....German cars especially!

Precisely.
It's more piss poor MEN journalism. It really is a shite online excuse for its former self. The whole basis of the story is a indie dealer in Stockport has a few cars nicked of his forecourt and this coupled to the fact he's heard German and white cars are popular with thieves is headline news! They publish this crap all the time.

TBF, last time I was there I was in a hotel and got a call at 3am, “Hi, it’s the front desk, the police would like to have a word with you about your car....”
Luckily it was the Q5.

Sorry to hear that. What happened?

Living in the "Sunny Manchester" suburbs is why in my early 40's, max no claims and no accidents my cars cost circa £500 to insure and not the circa £200 some folks on here are paying!

I'll give you the longwinded version as it shows you the lengths the scallies go to in Manchester to get some loot!
My dad used to fly Vulcans and we also used to live (in the 80s) on RAF Scampton (where the red arrows are based). The last display of the two of them was at the Southport airshow, so we definitely wanted to get some last mementos of that dual fly past! We took a tonne of pics on a half decent DSLR camera and a budget zoom lens that I'd borrowed.
We decamped back to the Marriott Victoria and Albert and upon arrival I found out it was £18 a night to valet park.

I checked the park right next door and it was £6 overnight...you can see where this is going!
When we parked, (with my very young son, so we wanted to minimize what we carried) I started to arrange all our gear, and decided to put the camera in the boot (big Q5 open tailgate with lighting to help me see) - why didn't I take the SD card out!??!

blah blah blah..they went in through the passenger window (obviously smashing it), into the back seat, broke through the parcel shelf and helped themselves to the stuff in the boot.

I'm certain (in the big dark car park) they must have been sitting and waiting/watching for idiots like me.
In the boot they left my wife's handbag, her mostly-empty purse, sunglasses, the expensive fixed lens that I hadn't used that day, and a few other things of decent value - yeah very lucky!

So clearly they knew what they wanted, they got in, got what they wanted and got out - as I presume the alarm was going off.

I grew up and lived a couple of miles from Manchester town centre, i lost count of the amount of cars i had robbed.

I would estimate 6-7 but everyone was found.....In Clayton funnily enough...

Non of them were white,by the way...

I also used to recovery stolen/crashed vehicles for Manchester A-D division and we was very busy. IIRC correctly the list consisted of 18 garages on a rota and we would get about 7-10 cars a week.

Manchester is a nightmare for robbed cars,and insuring them is just as bad. I moved to Derbyshire and my insurance dropped by nearly half.

Ok. So if you have bought a white German sports car in the last few weeks, not going to Manchester in it is high on the "not to do list"..!!

That's terrible. I know it's not particularly helpful but if I'm thinking of the right car park then it's notorious going back at least 20 years. I remember helping a friend get their car going after someone tried to steal it from there back in the mid nineties. All the stereo/speakers were gone though despite the alarm sounding so they weren't bothered about being seen even back then.

Well there's a guy down the road from me with a white M135i. He's had it a good few years now and it's still on his drive tonight, I'll have to check it's still there tomorrow!
