I HATE being held to ransom at services for fuel. So much so that I'll actually put £5 in and go off route to find a "normal" one, it's not the money with me, it's the principle...

At that price I think I would have just put in enough to get me off the motorway!

Firstly congrats on your new purchase Stu, its good to see you back in a zed
Christ that was one expensive fill up, I think I would have ventured off the A1 to find somewhere a bit cheaper. Hope you had a good drive back home mate

It’s been like this for decades though, so I can’t see how anyone (other than a non-native) can be caught by surprise.
If I need fuel in an emergency, then I’ll buy only enough to get me to a 'proper' garage.
According to my Fuelly records, I was paying £1.57/l for super in 2012/2013. Cheapest was £0.98/l in 2015.

That is indeed highlight robbery. Super is 108.9 at our local Tescos, with the current 10p off

I'm in full agreement, that's normally what I'd do to. But in this case time was of the essence, so basically had to take the hitDucklakeview wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2017 9:37 pm I HATE being held to ransom at services for fuel. Up until this the most I can remember paying was £1:44 at a wee single pump petrol station on the A68 going south that was on the way to the 2008 MotoGP at Donington. I was on my R1 which only had a small tank, needless to say I put a fivers worth in and filled up properly in Penrith.

Ye I'm fully aware of the "captive audience" which is the principal these rip off fuel stations operate on. I fell into that category as I was in hurry to get home and simply couldn't spare the time to go hunting in an unfamiliar area for a supermarket.
