I HATE being held to ransom at services for fuel. So much so that I'll actually put £5 in and go off route to find a "normal" one, it's not the money with me, it's the principle...

It’s been like this for decades though, so I can’t see how anyone (other than a non-native) can be caught by surprise.

If I need fuel in an emergency, then I’ll buy only enough to get me to a 'proper' garage.

According to my Fuelly records, I was paying £1.57/l for super in 2012/2013. Cheapest was £0.98/l in 2015.

That is indeed highlight robbery. Super is 108.9 at our local Tescos, with the current 10p off :D

I'm in full agreement, that's normally what I'd do to. But in this case time was of the essence, so basically had to take the hit :headbang:

Up until this the most I can remember paying was £1:44 at a wee single pump petrol station on the A68 going south that was on the way to the 2008 MotoGP at Donington. I was on my R1 which only had a small tank, needless to say I put a fivers worth in and filled up properly in Penrith.

Ye I'm fully aware of the "captive audience" which is the principal these rip off fuel stations operate on. I fell into that category as I was in hurry to get home and simply couldn't spare the time to go hunting in an unfamiliar area for a supermarket. Mores the pity
