As per header,
Not having the best of weeks......

As I mentioned it in another post, and rather than thread hijack too much,
Not had a great week or so.....

A week past on Thursday, travelling home from work,a road I travel daily, I was doing aprox 50/55mph,in a 60 limit, when I slowed down for a bend.
It was dark/getting dark, but not pitch black, and when driving round a sweeping bend,I slowed down to below 50,for teh bend.
Unfortunately, there was a flat bed/tipper style van/truck stationary on the bend, waiting to turn right into a small, seldom used 1.5 width road( I can count how often I have seen any traffic sitting there).

Long story short,it never had any tail lights on that I could see, which probably reduced my3-4 car lengths I had when coming round the bend,by a car length or so,at which point I slammed on the brakes
(No alternative,as a car was on the other side of the road, coming in the opposite direction,in the distance, and the grass verge was too high to go into).
As a result,my van is a write off,and I have injuries to my Chest,Neck,Ribs and Back/Upper spine!!
(The other vehicles driver/sole occupant, was uninjured, checked and verified by Ambulance crew/Paramedics)

Will be a few weeks or so to recover

To cap it all, after 3.5 hours in Ambulance and a&e,on a backboard,etc......I was just home, when Police chapped my door and are doing me with Speeding&Careless driving!!
The Police's attitude towards me was crap....saying the "witness" (1 car coming opposite way, further up the road,I assume),sad I was doing between 70&80 mph, and they(police) estimate my speed as well in excess of 60!!

Firstly ,my vans limited to 62mph,so the is impossible, and Any Speed related charges will be dropped,as a result.
Still got Careless driving to fight.
Due to my fault for running into the back of the other van.
My van is 1.9 tonnes,as per manufacturers info, but thats for van, driver, and fuel, but when it includes a full cargo,it is 2.7tonnes.....which limits it to 50, even on a 60 limit A road. Go figure!!

After looking at the road, getting van info, braking distance from various websites,I would of had to have been doing 20-25mph,in a 60 limit,on a dry day, with good visibility (my lights were fully on,btw)......in order to stop in time.
Who goes at such a low speed, even round sweeping bends.
If you did,you would run the risk of something coming round the corner quicker, and into the back of you.

Also,,as shown by my tracker,my speed when I started heavy braking was 46mph.

Will be looking at 3points, for Careless driving,Speeding to be dropped.... annoying as,after 24years with a clean license,I picked up 3points for Speeding, back in September, doing 60,when coming out a 60 into a 50,even though I had slowed down to 45,before the police came out a wee layby, and pulled me!!!

So in 2months,2 incidents,I have gone from a long time clean license,to having 6points :headbang:

As for the future,my journey to work will now take 60mins instead of 30mins,if I have to slow down to 20/25 on every single bend!!!

Anyway,rant over,lol.

Other than it sucks, and hurts, big time,as got a Fair few injuries (my vans a write off)

P.s,my 3year old Boiler stopped working a few days after this :headbang:
Not a good week or so,lol

Frustrating accident nonetheless, sounds like you've been beaten up badly - hope you get on the mend soon Craig

Glad your okay but it is frustrating when

Be careful as 6 points is okay but 9 is awful. Constantly looking over your shoulder. :(

Yes,the van took it alot worse than what I hit,was like hitting a brick wall, tbh.
The most annoying thing is going from a clean license since I was 19,when I last had points, and the only speeding ticket I had ever had,and now being half way to losing my license, which means I will be paranoid about getting any more, for the next 4 years!!

All because of 1 moment where I didn't slow down early enough when coming into a 50 stretch of dual carriageway, from. 60 zone.....back in September
And now this, which I have thought over in my head a million times, and short of doing 20ish mph instead of 45/50,in a 60 zone, which is frankly unrealistic, and probably a danger to those cars/vehicles travelling behind me,if I had been going that slow :headbang:

No win situation,imo

Yeah, going to add £300 to my Insurance on my z,plus ?? On the Tiguan, speeding adds only £30,but the Careless driving adds alot more for the same 3points!

Will be less enjoyable driving now,as will be extra worried at getting done again,Gary.

How are you anyway,mate?

Is there not an option to attend an awareness course for the careless driving bit instead of the three points?
My other half got caught jumping a red light by 1.2 seconds an she attended a course in lieu of the points, it still cost £80 or so but worth it
Just a thought, best of whatever happens.

Are the police not interested in the fact the other vehicle had no lights?

Yes sorry to hear this

You might want to get some specialist advice, the penalty is minimum 3 and maximum 9 points. You could easily get 6 for it if the police report is against you.
