A Reccomendation from me.

With the ice cold weather now here, I would reccomend this to everyone.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1

Went out the morning after the snow/freezing temps, unlocked the car and the car door open straight away, while i was sitting waiting for the windows to clear the neightbour came out and was frozen out of his x5. I then cringed as he went back in and came back out with a cup of steaming water, which he poured along the door edge trying to free it up while yanking on the handle.

Great stuff. I forgot to apply it this year and the glass had frozen to the hardtop seal. I ended up managing to open the passenger side door and pushing out the drivers door from the inside to get it open :headbang:

Yes, I'd recommend it too - I've been using it for a couple of years now.

Your neighbour may get away with that sort of treatment, but I wouldn't want to try it on a Z4 with frameless windows.

I'm sure it does, but you need somewhere to put it - which I don't have. :(

Our Discovery and the Mini were both out when it was wet and then very freezing earlier in the week. (The Zed was cosy in the garage! :) )

The Mini's doors opened fine, defrosted itself quickly and I was away.

Mrs R then needed to go out in the Discovery later. The doors opened OK but she was concerned that when she started it up the door mirrors didn't move, so they stayed "closed". Whilst the mirrors still open and close OK I can't imagine that them being frozen closed is going to lengthen their lives.

Does anyone know how to stop them freezing closed?

I’ve been using it for quite a few years, but also use some pre-de-icer the night before on the screens.

I don't think so. They open and close when the doors are locked/unlocked. But I suppose I could read the manual! :P

To be fair I think you could probably get them coded to default to "open" rather than "closed" - or you could indeed read the manual, or better still let the user of the car sort it out!
