What can you do about it

Post by pvr » Sun Dec 14, 2014 5:53 pm

Son and daughter with Audi to supermarket car park, Range Rover parks next to them and male passenger opens the door in the side - chipping the paint. My son confronts him about it, and the only response he gets is "what are you going to do about it", and the RR subsequently drives away.

So we got the car registration on camera, the cars when both parked etc.

In reality, what can you do about it? Obviously I will try to trace the plate and find out where they live if I can, but what options are there? Insurance obviously is a no go for this but not even sure if the police would be interested.

Thoughts on what to do?

Why not the insurance company? Ok lots of bother to go throught it, and they could deny it. But, depends on whether the principle is of importance to you.

I would report it to the police, as it could be classed as alleged criminal damage, but it wasn't intentional, but would dismissing it, make it criminal?

Not sure....

Brace yourself & take one on the chin :o as annoying as it is the police won't help if no-one injured leaving you to inform your insurer to pursue the offender which then goes against you & i suspect would take months of hassle to get anywhere

Perhaps the RR shops there every week and next Sunday a stray trolley might roll into it whilst the driver was shopping. After all, What's HE gonna do about it ???

Issue I have is that he felt comfortable saying that / being cocky to my son, would he feel the same if I knock on his front door?

Insurance is no point as it would hike the premium and would lead to nothing as it would just be denied.

I'm sorry to say this, but if this happened to me, I would find his car, whether at the car park or wherever, and then key the f@@ckers car on every single panel......

Just me, sorry

I was reversing my car out of my street the other day, as driving around the road near me, is soooo tight, I have kerbed my wheels. This van coming up the mouth of my street, wouldn't let me reverse out. I just got out of my car, and told him, to stick it up his arse...and I waited him out and he went after 10 mins.....

Pretty sure that carpark damage - even with evidence is a grey area with the insurance and usually goes knock for knock (certainly in my experience), therefore affecting your no claims regardless. But I'm no expert. May I suggest a visit with some baseball bats? & maybe carry a brick in the boot should it happen again?

Have to say, I'm with Stark, or the stray shopping trolley if you ever see it around again.

Funny that they parked, were confronted and then drove away - without shopping ? Must've been cautious leaving the car near a pissed off youngster with some keys...

It would really piss me off if someone treated my son and daughter that way.Personally I wouldn't knock at someone's door as these things can quickly get out of hand.If you happen to see this car again perhaps just get your own back.Make sure you don't get caught on camera though.

Definition of criminal damage........

A person who without lawful excuse destroys or damages any property belonging to another intending to destroy or damage any such property OR being reckless as to whether any such property would be destroyed OR damaged shall be guilty of an offence.

I would say he was reckless as to whether property was damaged and is guilty of an offence. I would report it as his attitude shows that he was reckless and couldn't give a toss.
