Woke up this morning to find a watch lying on the table in our back garden.
It is a Tag Aquaracer according to the logos and code on the rear case.
It has been well used and as you can see in the pics the 12 oclock marker is loose inside the glass.
The questions I have as it seems I am now the owner of this watch are:
Is it a genuine Tag or a copy?
Can the 12 oclock marker be fixed back in place without costing the earth?
Any ballpark figures on how much that would cost?
The back & the strap looks nothing like my Tag in terms of stamp  id say that was unlikely to be genuine
Perhaps yours is the auto (WAY2113), this one is a quartz (WAP1110). I hope the OP does get it checked for authenticity; I'm still calling it genuine but would love to know for sure.
At least as a quartz, it probably won't need a service when fixing the loose index...

Number5 wrote: Sun Aug 27, 2017 10:52 pm Nictrix, If the digits are falling off I would say its 99% sure to be a fake/copy so wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I had a fake Aqua-racer from a hoilday in Turkey(paid about £40) . It worked fine for about 3-4 years before it stopped but after only months, it was missing the day-glow bead above the 12 !!!

To find out pop it in the bath. It says 300m on it, but I doubt it will do 300mm if its fake !
This the fact the 12 O Clock marker has fallen off would suggest its fake!

I expect it happened to someone and they threw it into your garden

You could buy a crown removal tool and have a look at the movement though which will give you more ideas.

The back and strap even so far as the shape of the endlinks actually look nigh on identical to my genuine aquaracer so from just those 2 things I'd say that's very likely to be legit... But... The clasp on mine is different (the older style) so weather that case back and strap would match that clasp I don't know....

Even if its not real I wouldn't count on a highstreet watchmaker being able to tell. Its a basic ETA quartz movement in the gen and there are plenty of replicas that use the self same. It's literally a $40 movement

Personally I think quite a lot points to genuine but also a couple of things are concerning mainly the crystal should be sapphire hence not scratched but that could be dirt could even be an aftermarket replacement crystal... The loose marker is almost expected given how bashed up it is... Take it out in the sun then into a dark space if the lume glows really bright for an hour plus I reckon its real...

Yes, the engraving looks better (deeper) than fakes I've seen. Would be worth weighing too. 400g+ and it's more likely to be genuine.

I took the back off it.
There are several markings on a gold coloured metal.
The markings say: SWISS V8 F06 111 THREE 3 JEWELS
This all means nothing to me but may mean something to some of you guys.

That's the movement.

As James said, basic ETA quartz movement.

I suppose fakes / replicas could still have these markings

Its not rubbish like the Chinese Haida so keep it. That movement is actually used in others like Movado. Google Tag Heuer eta quartz movements,,,should tell you if its from them,,,or not

I'm now 99% convinced it's a genuine TAG (although I'm no expert on these).
Looking at the 'well-used' condition of the case and bezel, I think it is a sapphire crystal - anything else would be well scratched, and the OP's crystal doesn't look bad at all (can't tell if the line around the 2 o'clock is a scratch or a hair).
I would get still get it repaired & cleaned up at a watchmakers. I think it will look great when finished. Bit small for me @ 39mm but will be a nice daily wearer.
I'm not sure I want to know how you removed the caseback if you don't have a removal tool.... :( :?

I have a tool to remove watch backs.
It actually unwound quite easily, I was surprised.

Here's my second decent watch, I retired my 1983 Rolex when my Dad passed and bought another Rolex and now I think of him every time I look at my watch.

not the best pic but more for insurance purposes as a reference.

Classic style. How many times a day to you get asked 'is it real'? :D
I was in the local dealer a couple of days ago, and they were twisting my arm on a Milgauss (resisted) then a white dial Explorer II (only just resisted. I think the price put me off a bit, but it was a beauty...).
