The search is still on for a planet ocean, but someone mentioned the seiko, and for the money I thought why not?

At least I won't be precious about it!

Good plan , having a beater that won't break your heart if scratched or damaged from daily use is a fine idea

That'll be about the trade value of that watch so no great deal to be honest...

I'm likeing that and a good price too, it reminds me of the 60s Heuer panda dial :)

I have a weakspot for kickstarter watches as the chances are you will never see another, unlike Rolex's, Omegas etc.

Tim.
Thanks Tim, it's my brothers company, hence I boxed them, still had to pay for the watch!

You should definitely buy a few though! I'll make sure they are boxed well for you!
I've gone for the classic white like yourself Sam, should arrive on Friday :)

Dietcokeman wrote: Sat Sep 30, 2017 7:08 pm Yes....."beating Rolex's release of the Submariner by a year in 1953" what I mean is the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was released in 1952 . In fact I think you'll find that it's generally accepted that the Fifty Fathoms was around for a little longer than a year before Rolex released the Sub. And the French Military were using it first along with a little know French diver called Cousteau .

I know I know, did read some years ago after Rolex tried to make claims on being the "first" divers watch, then Lip/Blancpain shed some light on their reality
1953 blancpain for sale on "onthedash.com 26500 usd....... I feel like crying

I got this Montbrillant about 10 years ago, looking for an everyday watch, came across an odd eBay ad for this watch, no pictures, a very short and nondescriptive ad, a phone number in the ad, and a really good price, the sort of thing that will put most people off, so I called and got through to this nice lady at a solicitors in Essex, she explained that the watch belonged to her boss, the head solicitor, she was his pa, he had asked her to sell it for him, she had it in front of her, so I asked about the box and paperwork and markings on the back, she had the receipt, all good, so I asked if I could come and see it, have worn it everyday since, I negotiated an already really good price for cash, it was a steal!

This happens very, very rarely, but when it does, it really makes your day
Unfortunately I was on the other side of that 'great deal' once when I was outbid at a 'real' auction for an ex-Omani Air Force Breitling Navi (with the eagle engraved on the caseback). I could only bid up to $1000 and there was only one other bidder after it, via phone bidding. Sure enough, the bidding went up to $1000NZD after all other bidders in the room had stopped at about $500. I had to stop, so the phone bidder got it for $1100. I found out later it was probably worth around $3000USD so the phone bidder got a real bargain - but not me
