Trainspotting 2 27th Jan

Oh yes. Probably the film of my youth. (Not that my life was in any way similar I hasten to add!) :o

Saw the trailers when at the cinema last week and it looks great. Even from the clips it should have the same mix of humour and sadness along with some deja vu cinema moments.

They filmed some of it in Coull next to Fort William. They shut down a street one night.

I know it will be popular with us older guys but I wonder how it will be received this time. Hope they have got a stinking soundtrack!

:D

Yeah lookin forwards to this.
First one came out while i was livin for a bit at the ymca in sheffield and largin' it round eccleshall road.
Wasnt down on my luck or anythin, just couldnt get digs while i was subbing for a design consultancy cos all the students had snapped upthe decent places. Hooked up with a beautiful aussie pharmacologist who became our own 'mother superior' lol. Wonder where she is now. Happy days.
Original cast too!

Edit. I never could spell pharmacologist. Lol. Fixed

Any particular reason Colin?
Cos it had naughty drugs in it? Or cos it was too Scottish? Maybe too grimy/realistic? Too violent perhaps? Too long? Too much noisy music?

I thought back in the day that pt1 was awesome (I was in college).
I saw it in one of those preview cinema's so you didnt know what kind of film you were about to see and I also hadnt really heard of it I think, so it was pretty awesome. I thought it was quite a new way to make movies back then.

Actually that is a nice way to see a movie from that perspective. For example one of my friends had never heard of the trumanshow back then and also saw it in this matter, so it took him quite a while to figure out what was going on, just like the character himself and he said it was pretty epic.

Well, I'm no prude so drugs in a movie aren't a problem, no issues with the Scottish angle, as for grimy and realistic - fine with me, violence - bring it on, long movies if gripping are fine, noisy sound track can be irritating I guess. I just remember not liking it one bit :?

Yep - one that I'm looking forward to seeing . . . .

Going to be interesting to see what they do with it. One of the iconic movies so hope it's not a let down.

Last year, Steph and I were on the railway and station where the characters took the day out in the 'country' - yep - was bleak

Well not sure where the time went but i didn't get to the cinema & have only just watched the film tonight
Thoughts ?
A pale imitation of T1 & wasn't long into the film before it reminded me of " Dead Man's Shoes " & by then couldn't help but compare & for me the latter is a all time great , T2 i'm afraid is unlikely to be

I loved it and thought the balance was good. Laughed out loud at some bits but I suppose growing up in a bigoted atmosphere helped with that.

Comparing to T1 was always going to happen but I personally would have been disappointed if there were no nods to the first film.

Both myself and Jan enjoyed it.

Loved train spotting, for varied reasons I shan't disclose here. hehe. Many years ago I went to a private screening at the NFT which is now the BFI where Irvin Welsh was to give a talk and a Q&A after the film.
I was pretty wasted back then. I decided that having seen the movie previously I'd go to the bar. There were two people in the bar. Irvin Welsh and myself. We continued to 'have a few cheeky sherries' and talk for the duration of the film. We then went back into the auditorium where I returned to my seat and he gave his talk and Q&A.
