Driven one of these and it is very much a big GT car. It is massive!!

Nice looking but not actually that sporty I found.

Would the V6 be fast enough?....think there around 330 bhp ??
I'd have the F Type V6S around that budget, 380 BHP with one of the best sounding V6 exhaust notes currently on the market.

The 'S' model comes with more power over the standard V6, active suspension, switchable sports exhaust, bigger brakes and a LSD

Values seem to be holding up pretty well too.

An Elise, pretty much most people's definition of a sports car with agility over brute power being in its dna.
Certainly one of the best handling cars in the world with perhaps the best steering feel ever, no power assistance involved!

F type Cayman or Boxster.

I love the 981 its great to drive a lovely place to be and looks fantastic. But prices are holding very strong because of the 718. 718 again a gorgeous car but I don't think I could put up with the noise everything else is fantastic.

If I could I would love to get into an F type R or SVR complete beast.

I watched the supercar programme on quest last night and it was about the SVR and I think the thing that I came away with is that in a world of cars that all look the same the F type stands out on its own against the trend. I still think the 911 is a better car but I love the brutish nature of the F type.

If this was more than just an occasional weekend blast car I'd say get the Porsche (981) in either Cayman or Boxster simply because it is the best out there really. It also sounds really great, and real - it doesn't have the awful 'tricked up' exhaust of the F-Type with all its fake pops, crackles and belches. But as you don't need that sort of super-efficient Germanic engineering for your requirements I'd definitely recommend you drive an Exige S with the supercharged 3.5V6. It holds its money very well which is always my first question, it handles and steers beautifully and it is very quick indeed. At legal speeds neither the F-Type or Boxster will be able to keep up with it. It's also rare and has just enough comfort to make it tenable for longer trips/ days out. Its available in Roadster or Coupe and there's a variety of different models from the more hardcore Cup spec through to the more comfort orientated standard models. It's certainly where I'll be going next when I part with the Z4MC but Lotus have just gone and released the Sport 380 which is now the object of my desires.

Some really good food for thought and enjoying reading it and there are no 'wrong' one's here, just some that aren't me or fit the bill

My list has certainly widened to draw in some of the Lotus suggestions

70's De Tomaso would be fun but pure Summer weekend car as are most of that ilk, which rules out all the Healey's, etc.
The masserati's are either just too big and real GT's
Viper is just a big engine (so I'd dismiss it with any US sports car)

F type S is a nice piece of kit. Higher mileage 2013's are certainly in budget and 'base' low mileage 1 owner now well within
This caught my eye:

Having driven one, MX-5 RF all day long, and pocket £10k change.

Very impressed by the 2.0 litre with LSD. If I'd not just bought the Zed I'd have one tomorrow.
