I am not feeling the love for BMW at the moment. After the Z4 took 5 weeks for BMW to unbrick after their coding snafoo now my 5er seems to be in for a long haul.

I have the surround vision system on the car, with left, right and rear cameras. Last week when I put the car into reverse I got a warning on the dash saying "camera system". If I put it in rear view only it said "rear view camera failure" and if I put it in side view it said "side view failure". Ho hum, that's what AUC is for so book it in.

Conversation goes something like this:
service dude "we've diagnosed it, it needs a new camera"
Me "it says all three are failing yet they are all displaying on the screen, are you sure it's not the module?"
Service dude ...
Me ...

Take it back. Get a call. "Replaced a camera, turns out it needed a module too but all done, come and get it"

Get in car, pull out of the car park, put it in reverse and "bong" "camera system"

Go back in and grab service dude
Me "it's not fixed"
Service dude ...
Me ...
Service dude "we'll need it for a few days, we'll have a 330 for you to borrow"
Me "ok"

Takes car back Tuesday
Service dude "here's your loan 116d"
Me "wtf"
Service dude ...
Me ...
Service dude "take it and we'll deliver a replacement"
Me "ok"

I suppose a 320d is better than a 116d but it ain't a 330 and it's not my 535

Fast forward to today, I get a call from the incident manager or whatever his job title is telling me that he'll be managing my situation (this is how the call started when they told me they'd bricked my M)

Turns out that they have now decided to replace the wiring loom. They have to strip out the interior of the car. It might be a few days.

I am sooo looking forward to all the rattles, squeaks and other assorted crap that is going to happen next.

I am not holding my breath

See i like all the tech in the new cars but what I'm dreading is just this. It's getting so complex that even bmw themselves struggle to figure out what the problem is. I like my last of the simple BMWs.

Why not set up a poll?

do you expect :

Scratched trim panels
scratched seats
scratched paint
problem still not fixed
new electrical problems
More trips to the dealership
all of the above
Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?
