ASDA Screen wash

Post by obewan » Fri Apr 14, 2017 4:44 pm

Just been to the local ASDA. A guy was coming out with about 6 x 5L containers of screen wash
Must be cheap I thought
Sure enough, 25p for 5L :o

Offers on oils as well, but didn't take too much notice - sorry

Maybe just a local deal then
Amused me that the price sticker even had the price per litre under the main price
It was also right next to a 2.5 litre bottle at £2.50! :D

Tesco's are also selling off their penestone 5ltr screen wash a £1.25 the only difference is the freezing point indicated on the bottle it states -10 on the winter one and -2 on the summer one its in small writing on front of the 5ltr bottles .
The summer ones are still at full retail of about £5.
Both the Tesco and Asda products will be reduced to clear winter ranged products so when there gone there gone.

I'm sure that I've read somewhere that BMWs in particular don't like the cheaper screen wash results in clogging the washers up. Despite the seemingly good price at ASDA, I think I'll stick with BMWs own brand.

Our lad was in Hospital recently. It was cheaper to park outside B & Q & make a purchase, than park at the Hospital, when visiting. I now have 15ltrs of screen wash. Paid 1.99 for ea 5ltr bottle. :D

I use the stuff you get from Costco at £6 for 5L.

Never used the BMW one in any of my BMWs (or any other car), and have never had an issue.

I'd guess mixing different types causes the blockages.

My Zed is my daily driver up and down the M1 winter, summer all weathers, with the amount of screen wash I use if I opted for BMWs own at £17 it would cost more than it does in fuel :D
I have used all different brands and so far not an issue.
Maybe it is the fact that because the screen wash is constantly being flushed through the system and not sat in the reservoir for months on end without getting used that I haven't had any problems

I'm sure the last 2 posts explain the clogging issue. It becomes a sort of jelly, which mixing and leaving static for a long time probably causes the ingredients to separate and/or floculate

+1
I've cleaned the reservoir out twice (once in E85 & E89) in over 3 years - 10 min job. I can live with that :)

I've used the ASDA concentrate in all my cars for years with no problems. The Zed only does low miles and doesn't see the rain so the fluid sit there for ages and hasn't caused an issue in 7 years of ownership. BMW washer systems are bog standard with no black magic, just avoid mixing fluid types.
