New speeding rules next week, don't forget....
Drivers beware..
Remember the "10% + 2.5mph" leeway? ie you would only be done if exceeding 35 in a 30, 46 in a 40, 57 in a 50, 68 in a 60 and 79 in a 70 limit - Well from 24th April, that's all gone.
After that, you CAN be done for 31 in a 30, 41 in a 40 and so on.. PLUS they have "revised" the fines which will replace the fixed penalties..
They now have;
"Band A" which is 50% of your weekly income and applies where the limit is exceeded by between one and 10mph over the stated speed limit. You will still get 3 points min..
"Band B" 100% of weekly income for exceeding the speed limits by between 11 and 20mph. PLUS 4-6 points OR disqualification for 7-28 days.
"Band C" 150% of weekly income for doing 21mph and above the stated speed limit. PLUS 6 points OR 7-56 days disqualification.
Now on the back of this money making exercise, is it just me that has a feeling we'll be seeing the plod buying a few more laser guns and sending the good old PCSO's out en masse with them??
Absolute piss take, targetting the motorist yet again..

The ‘leeway' was only a guideline anyway, and there was nothing to stop you getting a NIP for 31mph in a 30. However, most people would be offered a SAC when within that tolerance.
The only thing that's really changing is the higher fines for bigger infractions...and only if you go to court. If you get a standard NIP for an SP30/SP60, it will still be at £100 & 3 points.
I don't think it will reduce speeding though, as most people know the chances of actually getting caught are minuscule.

Yup, trouble is, I can see then issuing a lot more NIP's for 31, 41 and 51 etc, and I reckon the "limits" on the static cameras will be adjusted "accordingly" downwards... I was watching the speeding wars prog last night and the camera op was showing how he set the GATSO to 48 in a 40, saying his force was a little more lenient than others, who I believe stick to the ACPO guidelines, and would therefore set the trigger limit to 46/47 in a 40. I imagine if they set it to 41 though, the system would go into meltdown...mmm-five wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:34 pm The ‘leeway' was only a guideline anyway, and there was nothing to stop you getting a NIP for 31mph in a 30. Lol, it's in all of the rags. The ACPO guidelines up until 2015 are below, and it's not been updated as far as I can see, so unless there is an update pending?Buckz wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:49 pmdaily express? biggest pile of crap that newspaper I wouldn't read anything from it.Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:45 pmhttp://www.express.co.uk/life-style/car ... I 100% agree with basing fines on income, as it provides an appropriate penalty to all rather than being disproportionate the less you earn. I don't think there should be a maximum though, 1 week for me, 1 week for Rooney, same penalty, wildly different amounts.

I also agree with that, HOWEVER I think this new system will merely "incentivise" the use of hand held lasers and the like, simply to generate more revenue.Scooba_Steve wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:58 pm I 100% agree with basing fines on income, as it provides an appropriate penalty to all rather than being disproportionate the less you earn. ACPO doesn't exist anymore (nor do the guidelines).Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:54 pmLol, it's in all of the rags. The ACPO guidelines up until 2015 are below, and it's not been updated as far as I can see, so unless there is an update pending?
It was replaced by the NPCC in 2015 after the Parker Review gave ACPO a drubbing (e.g. unaccountable, disregard for their own guidelines, lack of transparency, fraud, etc.).
Don't commit a 'crime' and you won't have to take the punishment - after all, none of our speedos under-read, so we can't really use the excuse that we didn't know we were driving over the limit

To be fair I'm not sure it has changed too much - my Mrs got a fixed penalty from a static camera in Datchet back in 2002 for 33 in a 30! (Before the days of speed awareness options sadly).
But the fine based on income does seem like a sensible idea (so it probably happened by accident).
Still if there has been a change I wonder if that is why the static camera on the A3 London-bound (sometimes supplemented by a van under the Ace of Spades underpass) has been replaced by a few average cameras - cynical, me?
Amazing to think that when I had a clapped-out MKII Cortina a 70 limit was deemed acceptable all the way to Robin Hood Gate, but now it's only 50 from Hook onwards for my somewhat more capable Z4!
Adhering to limits wouldn't be quite so tedious if the limits set were vaguely appropriate!

Definitely does not apply to me.Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2017 9:10 pm Oh dear, a "I never, EVER break the limit EVER" amongst us??
Although I don't complain about it when I (rarely) get caught, and that's whilst covering most of my 25k miles a year at above the motorway/DC speed limit.
Last time (about 4 years ago, just before the £100 fines came in) was for excess speed (actually top of 3rd) in a 60mph NSL in Wales. Was not taken to court as the PC recognised that I only used the peak speed to overtake and was straight back down to a more reasonable speed once the overtake was complete
