That could be tricky both lower end of the hearing frequency range. Will be interested to hear if such things exist.

I work on building sites and have come across diamond drillers that use an ear defender style headphones with a microphone. The idea being you can't hear the drill but can talk to other people on site. Got talking to the guys using them and couldn't believe it. Very little background noise and the other end could hear me perfectly. Reminded me of the headphones they wear on the pit walls.

The tech is obviously out there but at what price I wouldn't know. I'm guessing you'd want something in ear too.

I know that musicans use earplugs, and i have now contacted a norwegian company on this thema. They make individual fitmens and filters, and for musicans, motorbikers, pilots etc.

Worth a little research or a punt maybe? description states "The unique filter used in Noizezz preserves speech intelligibility, music and essential warning alerts can still be heard"

You can buy wired or wireless intercoms that allow pillion and pilot to talk to each other via headsets and microphone.

Have you considered the absence of that lovely burble on over run? For me part of the fun is the noise our cars make :driving:
