It's through them already, had a call from their insurer accepting full liability. Just waiting for the quote from the insurers garage to see if it's written off, almost certainly based on here. Question then is what money to accept from them

It's so hard to judge if it will be written off or not. I've seen cars with no damage categorised as a C and then cars with loads of damaged. repaired.

My car was hit and needed a new rear quarter a few months ago and was £3,300 to repair in the end.

If it was mine I would hope it would be written off, never the same once repaired.

That's a sweeping statement ,with the equipment accident repair garages have today ,the vehicle should be as good if not better than pre accident .
We have had two accidents repaired in the last six years, both not our fault. The damage on one was similar to the bmw. After the repair you could not tell any repair had been carried out.

Oh don't get me started on the engine. Fine when it's happy, but new injector caps and coils at the start of the year, won't see that back

Did see a replacement rear door on gumtree for £50, but with the engine as well post crash, not sure the wife can be done with the hassel. Told her if we get £4.5k she can get an E85, two two seaters for the house is fine, isn't it?

Your right, but I think its just the mindset that sets in for some folks after an accident. Despite the fact that a lot of secondhand cars and even some new ones, will have had a post factory bodywork repair. Can work in your favour sometimes as well, especially were the other party admits fault. If a car you wanted rid of anyway gets written off you can usually get more from the insurance than a p/x at a dealer.

It's down to the repairer at the end of the day but I've never seen an accident repaired car as good as factory finish, it's virtually impossible, my ocd would kick in. Just depends how fussy you are.

Car has been repaired on the exact same three panels 12 months ago, you couldn't tell the difference, I was really impressed. This is quite a bit worse this time and is to a different body shop so we shall see. Wife isn't too bothered, quit a few chips on the other side, wish they hit that so then both sides would have been recently done lol

We tried that for a while, occasionally it became pretty frustrating

If it a write off it's a definitely worth buying back and fixing. Infuuiates me how we throw cars away now, that's still a lovely car and deserves to stay on the road!!

Cheers Paddy. Still waiting to hear from the insurers so popped down the local garage, they are going to get a quote for us Monday we have a good idea how much it will be if we buy it back and repair. They seem to think they can get it done pretty cheap and they would be surprised if it's written off. Some good news at least
