longest test drive?

Post by Zed Five » Tue Jun 13, 2017 7:56 pm

Hi all,

I know that Porsche used to do 24hr test drives. What's the longest that anyone has negotiated with bmw? I need to try an i8 for at least this length of time to see if it suits my long commute. I'm guessing they'd want a deposit to show a serious purchase commitment (fine with that ). But will bmw decline?

If they want that much of my hard earned, id hope that they're in a helpful mood. Thoughts? (Other than don't buy one). I'm looking at a giant discount

Every BMW I have had, I had it from friday afternoon to monday morning as a loaner.

For the Z, I had one twice for a weekend.

Next one for me to try is the X5M for when I swap the 40D out, probably later this year.
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

Thanks. Interesting. You must be more well healed than me, or I just look too young for such trust :D

longest test drive?

First one was a 2.5 with auto box, so when I handed it back, I told him I was not interested as it felt like moving a box of sand whilst driving it. The second one was a 3.0 which was miles better, so that is when I ordered it.

It all depends on the dealer relation you have, or the sales guy at least.

I also make a point of getting the sales guy to come to me, not the other way around. When I bought the Porsche, the first test drive, they dropped a car off at my house for the weekend. To be fair, I don't do test drives if I am not planning to buy something though.

Jaguar have left me several cars for long weekends similar to pvr
Works as I drive 2 of them now

I'm sure if you show ability and intent that will arrange something. I'm equally sure they're keen to shift them and there are not many customers to let them slip by
Jaguar F-Type 3.0 Supercharged V6 S, Stratus Grey, LSD, Active Exhaust, CF wheels, Performance brakes, Sports seats and mods ongoing
Gone but not forgotten Z4 3.0i SE Roadster ///M front, Red ///M leather seats, Aero sills

Agreed. I never drive unless I intend to buy. I treat the test drive as 'any reason why I shouldn't buy'.

Good info. Thanks.

If all else fails - perhaps just hire one for a day or so. Having said that, if they get to understand your commitment - I cannot reasonably see why they would decline.

Had an i3 for a week and a Nissan Leaf for a different week. You need that long to see if the electric car fits with your life or not.

Bought the i3 :D
