Just read this article http://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/formula1 ... spartandhp, and was saddened to read how little progress has been made and that it's four years since his accident. It's a cruel world but one can only wish him well.

It is very sad. I still remember his appearance as 'The Stig' on Top Gear, as if it was yesterday.

What surprised me was something I read on Google yesterday, stating his wealth at either £800M or $800M. Can't remember which currency, but I thought that was a hell of a lot of money for a retired racing driver.

I'm not surprised he's still alive if they have that much money to burn.

One of the very best if not the best ever F1 drivers in the world and then to be injured so severely in a skiing accident.
Very sad...

So sad. I was never a great Schumacher fan but respected his talent . This continues to be awful. Yes he is still alive but is it worth it for him ?

I saw an interview with Ross Brawn at the beginning of this year I think it was, he wouldn't say what Schuey's condition is after he'd been to see him, understandably given his family's wishes, all he said was the reports in the press are not true. So who knows, but personally I trust Ross Brawn 100%, and the press 0%.

I'm suspecting he is totally unaware of anything that's going on and that makes it even more sadder.

With all due respect though ekimj10, nobody knows, it's all speculation driven by a press wanting a story, they'll say anything. I'm not saying you're wrong but we simply don't know anything.

John, you are absolutely correct in what you say and it is the family's prerogative to do as they think fit. The whole situation is very tragic.

It is tragic definately, on the quiet he gave a lot to good causes, ok he had it to give but nonetheless, and apart from that a staunch family man with the rest of his life ahead. As you say all we can do is hope he recovers.

I've not read the article and don't plan to. Just the press making up news to fill space for profit. The whole thing is indeed truly tragic. I was a fan, of his driving talent and his arrogance, as he could back it up with actions.

Oh for a happy ending. He was never a quitter, so why should his family quit on him, while there is still even a small element of hope.

He was a fantastic talent in a race car - I didn't like some of his tactics but he was certainly supremely talented and I was gutted when I heard about his ski accident, especially after he had retired from F1.

But if he is unaware of what it going on around him then to be fair that may be better for him, even if it isn't for everyone around him.

Tragic situation all round.

Never warmed to him at all. Ashamed to say that it's taken tragedy to make me appreciate how good he was, and also that he was most likely a very decent guy.

Recently when Vettel's won and they play German and Italian anthems back to back, you can't help but think back to Michael Schumacher's dominance of the sport. Very sad.
