After 4 Weeks, Whats done & whats next.

Post by markalp » Wed Sep 06, 2017 8:05 pm

Have had my Alpina Roadster for just under four weeks, just wondering if there is anything else you would reccomend I should do (to ensure a long and trouble free life).

What I have done.

Before buying
Got a full RAC check done, which included an oil analysis, that confirmed no metal or coolant in the oil. they also picked up on a small coolant leak but were unable to find where it came from.

After taking delivery.

Popped it in for a full health check up at an indi bmw specialist who found two smalls leaks one in the radiator, and one in the sensor housing (i think) anyway had them replace the radiator and housing, also did filters, oil, and brake fluid. Spark plugs looked new when they checked them, they also noticed that the car has had the front/rear bushing replaced recently. (I found the invoice for that work a few days ago)

I felt the front shocks were a bit worn (the old sitting on the bonnet test), so had the front shocks and top mounts changed to oem spec.

It will be getting a hunter alignment next week.

Then I did my own "comfort" bits, fittted a SmartTop, yes i know its expensive compared to the other ones, but I wanted to put the top up and down while driving, and also fit it without cutting into any wires. Fitted an aux cable to the back of the radio (just in the space behind the ashtray for now).

Things ordered and waiting for.
Connects2 CTABMBT009 which will be plugged into the CD changer port behind the radio, and just used for bluetooth audio streaming, and using steering wheel controls for prev and next track. (already have phone bluetooth in the car).
Alpina branded door sills as the car has generic BMW ones at the moment.

Furure plans.
Over the next six months I plan on getting the VANOS refurbished, and the head gasket replaced, both are showing no signs of wear but with the car on 84k its more a preventative thing.
Will probably also put in new HT leads (I usually use magnecor so will probably use them again)

Is there anything I have missed that could pop up and bite me in the a$$?

Interesting photo location! Looks sweet and it's obvious you certainly intend to keep it for a good while and look after it.

Cosmetically I'd possibly consider a full enhancement detail and ceramic coating.

Chose dead centre of town, or maybe had grave concerns about those bits that may go 'pop'.

I'll get me coat...

Never been a fan of enhancment detailing and all those coatings, it lives on the streets of london, gets used every day, and doesnt get garaged, just gets a £15 valet (inside, and out) every 2 weeks at the car wash on scrubs lane.

Because of london parking/traffic I know that the day after I spend the cash to get it detailed it will tip it down with dust filled rain, and someone will scuff the bumber or scratch the wing mirrors squeezing past in when parked in the west end lol.

A couple of things to do for me.
First, get her on the Alpina register.
Second, wheel colour is not right for me. Get them back to silver.
One other concern is the door sills not being Alpina. Did the early cars have generic BMW ones?
