We avoided toll routes in France... get a Europe map.. from Calais go north to Dunkirk then take the a25/e42 stay on the e42 round lille to Charleroi past Spa circuit!! On to Liege and Verviers where the e42 drops south through Malmedy. Either stay on the e42 or cut across on the 410 to kelburg.
We stayed at a hotel outside Mullenback called Hotel Sonneck..check out booking .com. 5 ks from the ring. Great trip... when you get to the ring you need to follow signs with a red A areas 1-12 I think.. looking for nordschliefe... it's out the other side of the main complex.
Tunnel was 100quid. Hotel three nights bnb for two was 240... food at Mullenbac was cheap.. as it's locals only really... but English speaking no problem... fuel over there same cost as over here.
Go for it... allow 7 hours or so for the trip each way.
Absolute blast and will defo be going back.
Any other info you want. Just ask..

Lots of different routes...ways to get there... main thing is to have fun... bit boring on your own... depends on how much time you have available for the trip.

Don't be put off by the route, it's very very straight forward, with no tolls.

From Calais head toward Brussels on the E40, stay on this road until the Brussels ring road. At the ring road follow directionsto Leige/Luik on the E40. Once the other side of Brussels and still on the E40, look for the E42 direction St Vith/Verviers, take this until you see direction Prum/Gerolstein on the 410, following past Prum toward Gerolstein, go through Gerolstein on the 410 direction Kelberg. The Nurburgring is signposted from there.

I would recommend staying in Adenau and can put up a link to a nice guesthouse I've used for the past 10 years or so. It's in the middle of town, so close to bars and restaurants.

If you need any more info just ask

We avoided Brussels as the traffic was heavy round there... Brussels ring road is like the m25... sometimes good.. often really busy. either route no tolls.. there's always a few variations.. but your right.. very straightforward to get there.
