Aero Skirts

Are you guys having to trim the front edge of your aero skirts??? I keep reading they need minor modding to fit the z4m models.

2-4mm from the inside edge in the front. Not necassary, but they clip in much better

So literally tiny mods then.....

I agree aero skirts show up better on silver and other lighter colored cars. dubseed's car is a great example. But I still want to put them on my black sapphire coupe. It would be nice to see some pics of dark colored cars with the skirts installed.

Just one point of note is that these are the very parts that BMW will stop stocking sooner rather than later, as they are not basic parts.
Delay months and you may regret it. I recall weeks after the model run stopped the CF rear diffuser went out of stock and we're seeing it now on hardtops and other such parts.
Was there a CF rear diffuser available from BMW?

Yup, saw that on another thread. Now discontinued.

Confirmed today with getBMWparts.com, they still have OEM E85/E86 aero skirts in stock and on special (see pricing in earlier post above).

These are old photos of my car but hopefully will help to convince that the aero skirts do have a big impact on a black car.

dgm - Thanks for posting the pics. Admittedly not as noticeable as on a lighter colored car like dubseed's, the aero skirts are still a nice aesthetic improvement on a darker colored car... which confirms my decision to purchase as set for my black sapphire coupe.

The below pictures arent the best, but it will give you an glance of a 'before' and 'after' shot of the side skirts. They look awesome when the car is clean on a sunny day, really shows off the concave & convex angles

Great looking car, ranski! Thanks for posting the pics. The skirts definitely give the car more presence. It's a subtle but noticeable improvement. As others have said, the aero skirts should have been standard equipment.

Quad conversion looks great too

I have to say that I think they look great. But..... Take an E30 M3, E36 M3, even E46 M3. If you see one in the classifieds and are sufficiently interested, but it's not completely standard then wouldn't you walk away? I would. You never add value by modding.
I had the chance to buy a perfect E30 M3 Cecotto edition for £10k from a mate 10 years ago , thought I couldn't afford it at the time, but am kicking myself now! If that M3 had been modded then wouldn't have been in the room. These cars are future classics, don't delete they're M'ness. Food for thought.

You have a very valid point. I've kept all of the OEM parts to de-mod my car if ever I want to sell it. This is both for the reason you suggest, and also because the modded car would sell for less than the sum of its parts if I were to sell the car and each of the mods separately...

Most importantly, as my ///M is solely for my entertainment, whilst it is in my ownership I want it exactly to my specification. I wouldn't refrain from modifying a car just to keep the next owner happy.

I wouldn't have said adding a part which was available to order as an option at time of purchase is modding a Z4 M to the point where a future buyer would walk away.... unless the buyer really knew his onions he probably wouldn't notice.

No it wasn't. Aero skirts were not an option on the M. They are aftermarket (Albeit via BMW)

Sadly my insurance company begs to differ!
