I'm going to SORN mine at the end of this coming weekend. It will be tucked away in the garage for 4 or 5 months while the roads are salty. I'm lucky to have a long drive so can move it about once every few weeks when it's dry to keep the all the fluids flowing.

SORNd mine at the end of last month, work on the 6 on, 6 off.

Need to get it out again to clean it before the cover goes on though, just not had time/weather mix correct yet.

Popped 4 new tyres on it the day prior to SORN as got some PSS from Costco on special order. Said I was going to change the rubber at the start of the season, but never got around to it.

The slow flat was actually a nail in the rear, invisible from the outside.

Fronts had a good life left, but more concerned on rubber degradation as they were the originals & car has only done 24k. Need to evaluate the keeping of the car, but with WBAC offering £19k recently, and I've added 17k miles since purchasing it's pretty much depreciation free motoring...oil change every 4K miles now & services on mileage basis.

No one is judging you - it's your car you can do what you want and if SORNing it suits you, your darn well SORN it!

Never had a policy with that restriction...

Under certain circumstances you're even allowed to drive on the roads without road tax - e.g. you can't tax the car without a valid MOT but you can drive an untaxed and MOT-deficient car to a pre-booked MOT as long as you have insurance.

Yeah, You can drive to and from an MOT station without mot and tax. You are covered for a pull or an accident if the station clarify you were actually booked in.
Unless you have a trade policy, 90% of insurances don’t cover the car unless it’s taxed. I would check your small print. Laid up insurance is specific for sorn vehicles.

No winter driving here, the salt just kills it.
The trusty old Punto will be out next week for another grim winter.

Mine will be used all year round, it’s a weekend toy and plenty of nice clear bright wintry days to be enjoyed.

Clean the car and cover with a pair of cotton bed sheets, a maintenance/ trickle charger and a full tank of fuel.

I don’t start the car until it’s ready to go out in the springtime.

I like to have the option of taking it out so no sorn for me.

That said, if it's wet or has recently been gritted I won't use it, but given a nice sunny day after a good run of dry weather then I'm happy to use it. Just gotta watch those cold tyres!
