I think he went to a different dealer in the end & they just got on with it without argument

As Rob says, I got it done in the end. I had full service history but not with BMW and that was acceptable. The issue I had was the warranty department said the roof of an E89 wasn’t covered as it wasn’t a fixed panal  The dealer I took it too took that as black and white and wouldn’t fight my corner and no matter how much I through at BMW they weren’t changing there mind! I then took it to another dealer and told them the story and they agreed with me, a few days later I had the warranty claim accepted and a great job done by Specialist Cars and their in house body shop in Hitchen 👍🏻

That dealer really wasn’t thinking. If only fixed panels were covered the bonnet, boot and doors would all be excluded.

I had that conversation with BMW GB Steve and they wouldn't expand on it, just kept repeating "the roof panels are excluded " and it isn't in writing anywhere... why is it excluded? because BMW say so :headbang:

Bmw Corrosion Warranty

I’m waiting on a verdict from BMW on boot lid corrosion, report submitted by Sytner Solihull, they also asked to see my service record, which is mostly main dealer and the last few specialist, they didn’t say anything about that though, fingers crossed!

Well, after what seems like an age i just recived a response form my local Bmw Dealer;

"They have said that your car has not been seen in the BMW network for 8 years.
They are asking for invoices or proof that the Vehicle body check reports have been carried out at the correct service intervals
If you can drop these in and have a chat with andy he will go back to BMW again"

The issue is not even the Bmw service invoices i have, state bodywork checks have been carried out.
Has anyone had a simlar issue and managed to get around it?

Well that all sounds a bit ridiculous, how annoying. I don't have my service book to hand but my understanding is that the 'body inspection' (whatever the hell that is) is listed as a part of an inspection I or II service. Ergo if you have an inspection I or II stamps in the book this will (probably not :D ) have been done. What additional proof can you provide them? They want a video from 3 years ago of the service or something? It's ridiculous.
I would be going back to them with your service book and if you have any receipts for those inspections (but ultimately I don't really see why you need to prove they took place), and pointing out to them that in their own T&C's they don't stipulate inspections should have be done at BMW. It's irrelevant whether the car has been outside the dealer network or not, be it for 1 day or 8 years.
It's a shame you're not able to easily reach out to another dealer, as whilst they seem to be suggesting it's BMWuk causing the issue, it doesn't sound to me like they're on your side which is a bit crap. Given the nature of the rust area and the proof of original paint I can't see why this isn't being dealt with as it should be by them.
Good luck with it.

I’ve done well with the corrosion warranty of late but on each occasion there was an emphasis put on the service history by the body shop assessor. It wasn’t a problem as I’ve still got a full BMW history but I reckon they are working to a directive from BMW.

Sounds like we are in the same position! I am being asked for proof of corrosion checks, I have a fully stamped service book and the receipts from my services, but no mention of the corrosion check.
I told the dealer that they don’t provide this proof, and the service book doesn’t have a tick box for body check, so what the hell do BMW expect! As far as I am concerned the body checks have all been carried out, if they want more proof they would have to have included it in the service book.
Also they are not interested in the fact that other cars of the same age have been repaired under warranty, for the same corrosion in the same place.
I’m at a bit of impasse, any ideas what to do?

It's pointless having checks, if they'd found it earlier they would still have had to repair it as no servicing stops corrosion...

Both had full bmw history though, both passed for repaint without hesitation.

The E89 was fine, they did a grand job, took them 3 months to get the Coupe right. Was farcical

These are old cars now. A couple of hundred quid in a bodyshop every 12-18 months is expected with old cars. Bad times if you live by the coast, befriend a bodyshop owner quick.

They should still honour the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty though.
