Bmw Corrosion Warranty

Post by Kernow-Z4 » Tue Nov 14, 2017 9:33 am

Good Morning everyone,

How has everybody faired with the 12 year Bmw corrosion warranty?
My M coupe has decideed to show a tad of rust along the inside seam on one of the doors. It looks to be a fault during manufacture which is manifesting its ugly head just before winter lay up... :headbang:

I went into my Local Bmw dealer yesterday to ask about getting this sorted under the Warranty, the paint guy took all his his pictures and paint depth readings and told me it is indeed orginal paint and has rusted from the inside out so is covered.

However, when the time cam to look through my service book, he first questioed the fact that our books dont have sections for bodywork inspections to be signed off, asking if it was the original. Followed by stating that he thinks they will reject becasue it doesnt have a Full Bmw Service history. Indeed the last 3 services have been carried out by a specialist, but as the warranty blurb in the book states, all were carried out within the correct intervals.

Has anybody had experience or success claiming without a Full FBSH, or am i just being taken for a ride with them trying to wiggle out?

Firstly, the dealer needs to submit the claim. Its pointless them second guessing BMW.

It's also worth trying to see the claim information before its submitted. The dealer can heavily influence the outcome of a claim dependent on how the claim information is presented.

Yes I claimed on the corrosion warranty on my last car, FBMSH is not required only that servicing has been carried out to spec.
What should happen, and sounds like it has it that the service chap will most likely take paint depth readings around that area when they come to inspect it and from that they will be able to tell if it has been repainted in the past. If it has then forget it, if not he should submit a nice report for you to BMWuk to action the repair.
If they are idiots about it try another dealer.

Thanks guys, indeed they have told me they have submitted a claim, didnt get a chance to see it before it went off.
The warranty fella who was doing the paint readings was saying the regional manager who has to sign off these claims has stated all cars need a Full Bmw service history to qualify and hes had multiple tuend down because of it...

Its already been stated than a new door would be required, but living in deepest darkest Cornwall im fairly limited to what dealers i can go to with the same franchise controlling all up to Exeter i believe...

That's just not true though. From BMW's own literature

"BMW is pleased to announce that all cars registered from 1 January 2004, will now be covered by a 12-year anti-corrosion warranty and a three-year paintwork warranty. This move represents a significant benefit for BMW owners as the previous level of cover was six years’ anti-corrosion and one year’s paintwork warranty. The news comes soon after BMW amended its three-year dealer warranty.

....

Owners can take their BMW to any garage without affecting the conditions of the warranty, so long as the vehicle is serviced according to the manufacturer’s guidelines. The changes in the terms and conditions of BMW warranty cover are also retrospective, i.e. cars that have all or part of their three-year warranty still valid will qualify under the new terms and conditions.

Indeed, i complety agree with yourself Tom. I sat there with my Warranty book out infront of him preaching a similar line.
Can i asked where you sourced thoose snippets of text from?

I think that was where he seeemed he wanted to wiggle, there was no assurance that the 'bodywork inspections' had been carried out to manufacturers guidelines. :headbang:

"Bodywork inspections" LOL! As if they do anything at all to inspect the bodywork when a car comes in for service
Tbh that was an old post of someone from 2011, but I have been categorically told by BMW cotswold that this is the case.
The wording as it is currently on their website says only that the car should have been inspected according to schedule and no mention that it must be done at BMW.
I can't understand why the dealer guy is being a dick as they make money from carrying out the repair on BMWuk's behalf. It's almost like they don't want the work :?

Best of luck with it.

I asked about a new small bubble on the bootlid. Two different BMW shops here in Sweden.
Firstly the warranty was off due to a repaint (burgler damage) on the lid itself, and secondly because I do the service myself.
So.. there.

What a load of BS from BMW! Servicing has nothing at all to do with the paint!

I have literally no idea why it is there on this one door, it doesnt seem to be a common place to get it.
The guys at the dealer seemd to think it is a manufacuting fault...
The rest of the car is completly Corrosion free, bar a bit of bubbling on the vanity panel inbetween the headights, but im led to believe thats fairly common and simply a superficial part.

Ask Pastry he had a massive ballache but that was on an e89 and the only argument BMW came up with was that the folding roof is not covered

they aren't cheap, i do hope this can be sorted in situ to, as in my experience the panels never quite line up correctly afterwards and z4 panel gaps are already laughable.
