Rob did you have the internals modified or go for the bypass mod.?
I went for the over the top pipes, rather than the full gutting. The garage i used said they could easily be reversed if i didn't like the sound, so went with that option.

Cheers

Done - awesome mod for $250 … around town from idle to 3k rpm sounds stock but with some attitude!

WOT and 5k plus … it sounds fantastic.

It really gives the car a dual personality.

I have the before vid but haven't set up the GoPro for the after yet.

The mod worked out exactly like Dalecan's example above and thanks to him we only had to open one chamber - easily reversed as the other two chambers are untouched.

All of the "witches hair" was replaced before the cans were welded closed.

PS: Plasma cutters are "cool"

Did almost exactly the same on my 993 but left out any wadding. Sounded fabulous and looked stock. No drone, plenty of pops on the over run. I didn't even link the inlet/outlet pipes just gutted the internals and left it with 60mm inlet and outlet stubs. Cost me 100 quid for welding up.

Very old topic but does anyone know who has had this done? And still on the forum?
I would be very interested as don’t want to change from stock if it can be helped. Thanks.

I’ve got a second hand OEM pair in transit to me now, don’t think I’ll be fitting them onto my MC for a few months now. Just keep looking you might get lucky.

What is the diameter of the elbow pipe used in this conversion?

I used 60.3mm O/D T304 with a 1.5mm wall thickness (57.3mm I/D) and then T304 Perforated tube which had a 60.5 I/D, however I didn't use radius bends instead I mitered the bends as shown below:

Interesting, did you seal the openings where you cut the tubs from the muffler?
Thanks

No, I didn't think it was necessary as exhaust gases entering the muffler chamber would always take the path of least resistance and given that the lagging would be repacked around the new pipework then the exhaust gases would naturally want to flow through the pipe and not out of it. I've been using the modified boxes for a few months now and the sound/performance is a vast improvement over the original set up.
