I do often look at the car market and think it's a huge bubble waiting to burst. Personally, I think it'll happen the moment the BOE makes the first interest rate (who knows when that will be)....but people will quickly start to prioritise different things.
People need to remember what cars were selling for just a few years ago. I sold my CSL in 2009 for £22k (and that was a tough sell)..and bought a 4 year old Aston V8V for £28k just a few months later. It's a little crazy to think my 2007 Z4MC is worth £20k in 2017....

Having been in the market for a Z4 MC for a couple of months and watched the ones that have come and gone - the recurring cars that remain available just didn't quite checkout and pass my inspection and I viewed a lot of cars.
Sounds like they are throwing warning signs to others as well. The good ones seem to appear and disappear very briskly though.

Ye I also agree with the market being a possible bubble waiting to burst.
Obviously everyone sees value in different ways but if you look right across the whole spectrum everything is expensive apart from new car prices, dealers are literally throwing them at you.
I was recently in Porsche Newcastle and they were saying people are hoarding 981 boxster s and cayman s and the new 718 has been a difficult sale, so I see the possibility of some great deals as we get to mid cycle when they haven't met quota. The 981s are sitting anywhere between 35-65k and they are 2-6 year old brand entry level cars. I'm not sure if its sensible or mad.
I live in Manc and see all sorts of exotica around all the time but the 718s are a rare site!
One ridiculous deal I heard bounding around was the 4c at £350 a month not sure on deposit... again because they haven't met quota... What are they 70-75k cars to buy...
Second hand cars a huge trend because dealers are making more money on finance deals than new cars, price hikes on older desirable cars buying cheap off owners wanting to offload old cars. Add double interest rates with low annual mileage they get the car back in 2-3 years time and will probably sell it for more... as again desirability rises and higher mileage acceptable with age.
If interest rates do go up and prices fall... its just a bit of a squeaky bum time to buy unless money isn't really an issue and you don't mind taking a risk.
The one sector that does seem pretty good value is the E89, but I suppose they are getting to the bottom of their value curve and people are waiting for the Z5.
Quite happy to see how it pans out while saving in the meantime. Could be an interesting 18 months.

Some good points there Tomscott.
I think the bubble will burst as well but I don't actually believe the Z4M will be affected because in some respects, compared to some vehicles, they are probably underpriced and not overpriced.
For overpriced cars I'm thinking 1M coupe, M3 CSL, and some Porsche GT cars in particular.
The Z4M has some real credibility as the last of the inline six naturally aspirated M' cars with a great engine, and still very much an analogue car with a proper manual gearbox. To see 1M coupe prices go as high as £50-£60K is crazy but there are people out there willing to pay.
With interest rates set to rise soon and the uncertainty with Brexit I can see some dipping at the top end of the market, but further down which is where the Z4M currently is, it may not be affected so much. For Z4M I think we will see some small increases but no dipping going forward.
As said it will be an interesting 18 months coming up!

This turned out to be false/retracted smart ish. It was part of the band-waggon jump when M135i and Golf R deals came out. Some naughty dealerships putting people through as "sole traders" to save on VAT and give a little extra discount.

Anyone ever used Cazana for price estimates? They seem to be slightly higher for more exotic cars like the Z4M but on the money for mass market ones?

Some really poor pictures (zero interior pics), no mention of service history, or condition, or spec (nav?), 3 owners inc. current.
Could be a great car, but as already said a pretty poor advert - certainly hasn't got me excited
