kW v3 coilovers

Post by veilside85 » Tue Mar 22, 2016 8:52 pm

Just awaiting for my kW coilovers to arrive and got me thinking about ride heights and settings.

So what heights and settings is everyone using on them??

Good choice on the V3's! I'd buy the same if I had the cash!

If they were bought from a UK dealer, the ideal settings for UK roads "should" be pre set out of the box.
Ride height is entirely up to yourself :)

Mine are at 355mm, hub-to-arch, which about 5mm below max and about 10-15mm below stock. Rebound is 11/16 (open) all round and bump is 10/12 front, 9/12 rear.

The recommended starting point is 8/16 rebound, 6/12 front and 5/12 rear bump. Mega planted but a little jiggly on roads with small undulations.

Good choice.

Can't wait for them to arrive like a big kid, just hope they come in time before my trip away.a broken Spring sort of made my mind up to get a set of kws's the clubsport was what I wanted but I just wouldn't get the use out of them to justify the extra money.

Thanks for the advice on the settings gives me a idea where to go on them.

Could I ask where you got them from? I am tempted by buying in Germany and getting shipped vs buying in UK as the EU option seems to save around £250

I don't know about KW...but on my Bilsteins:
  • If it's wet/greasy/icy, I start out on 2/10 rear and 3/10 front - otherwise it's very twitchy/understeery.
  • As it dries, I go up to 6/10 rear and 8/10 front.
  • Bone dry, in the summer, then I'll stay at 6/10 rear and 10/10 front.

Don't forget that personal preference plays a huge role in the settings too.

Some people like a rock-hard set up, and enjoy the skipping from bump to bump. Others like it a bit softer so they can absorb the bumps a bit better without upsetting the car.

The settings are simple enough to adjust (on the Bilsteins anyway), and only takes 10 seconds per corner - as long as you remember what they're on and which way is harder/softer.

On my Z4MC I have the AC Schnitzer Sports suspension, uprated ARBs and OEM wheels. The ACS suspension has combined bump/rebound adjustment. I've found that the most important thing is to get your hot tyre pressures correct (2.1bar front and 2.2bar rear) then you can make suspension adjustments from a known tyre pressure base. For a wet track I like my road settings of FRONT = just over half way towards hard and REAR = 1/3rd firm. In the dry I like all the settings pretty much full hard all round.

On my Z3MC I have KW V3 with separate bump and rebound adjustment at each corner, and I like similar settings to those for my Z4MC except I find that I prefer the rebound settings slightly softer than the bump settings, especially at the rear. This has been my finding with 4 different types of street tyres with the two different cars and suspensions.

Although for a racetrack the Nordschleife is quite bumpy, for a fast road it's pretty damned smooth, so once you know where all the bumps are, you shouldn't catch yourself out or find the surface too bumpy to use very firm settings.

Have you been to the Nordschleife before?

Here's a tip for you making adjustments for the KW V3 if you've got that silly little pin adjuster for the rear bump settings. Get a pair of caravan levelling ramps http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from= ... p&_sacat=0 and run the rear wheels on them to make the adjustments and use a torch so you can see what your doing!
