Saw your lap on YouTube and it never cease to amaze me how much better the M2 sounds compared to the M3/M4! And mineral grau manual, perfect!

Thanks...the M2 is a great car. I went back last weekend to do more laps and test my M2 back to back with the Z4M on the Nurburgring.

VIDEO OF A FULL LAP WITH MY M2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RumevPuBTI

The M2 is fast, more powerful, has a lot of grip...and with the Endless ME-20 brake pads the brakes are really good on track (zero fade, no vibration, good byte, good modulation, not hard on the discs, low wearing pads). But after 10x Nurburgring laps and the back to back test I came to the conclusion that I have more fun, more thrills, more driving sensation, more sense of speed when driving my Z4M on the Nurburgring. It felt so easy in the M2 and the sensation of speed is a lot less in the M2.... You can indeed feel the heavier weight of the M2 (vs Z4M) when you start pushing the car in to corners.

But my M2 is the better, more practical, more enjoyable daily car....that delivers mega-mega fun on the street. I love driving it everyday...I don't want to drive my Z4M everyday. My Z4M is lighter, more fun, more involving drive on track...even if it has less power, lesser front end grip and lower turn in speed. My Z4M is not a standard Z4M (AP racing brakes, Bilstein PSS-10, Vibratech engine mounts, RTAB limiters, etc) so this can influence things...also the weight difference is more noticeable on track (on street this is not an issue). Don't get me wrong the M2 is "straight out of the box" still great on track (with different brake pads), but I like my Z4M more on track... I if did not have a Z4M the of course I would use my M2 for street and track and enjoy it...but I have the luxury of choosing and for driving trackdays my preference goes to my Z4M....and when driving to work or daily usage my lovely M2...

Same thing I find when driving an e92 M3 at the Ring vs the e34 M5 or Z4MC (or even Alfa JTD).

Some cars are just too competent that you've got to go REALLY fast to make them exciting, so that when you do make a mistake it tends to be a bigger one.

The M3 is very capable and soaks up the unevenness as well as the M5 did, but at the higher speeds you're approaching the corners (than the e34) the slow response of the steering & suspension takes a bit of getting used to - and you almost have to start turning a tenth or two before you really want to just so that it's all nicely weighted up for the corner.

Both the M5 and M3 can be driven with less car as they will absorb a bump when you get too close to a kerb, but the throttle & box delay on the M3 doesn't let you play with it mid corner like the cable-connected throttle & manual gearbox of the e34 M5 (no traction/stability control either).

The Z4MC is completely different and jumps about everywhere as it's so stiff. Not race car stiff with excellent suspension to counteract it, but just too stiff for the springs it came on as standard. I find running it even on the softest setting of the Bilsteins makes it a much more rewarding drive than the OE suspension - and it's less skittish in the wet.

On track I drive with setting 4-Front and 3-Rear on my Z4M... My suspension is a Bilstein PSS-10 (so setting 10 is the hardest). I find that my Z4M works best on street and track with the softer suspensions settings... I'm going to fit CUP2 tyres on my Z4M and then I'm going 1 setting harder on my Z4M (on track) with 5-Front and 4-Rear.

Still; I love my M2 as street car and it gives so many fun and driver involvement on the street...but on track my preference is my Z4M

Everyone has their own taste in color offcourse... The M2 can be delivered in white, blue, black and grey. I don't like the white and blue... Black is really nice, but the Mineral Grey was more low profile and a anonymous.
What! No red available, shame on them.

The M2 sounds nice under power, but that popping and crackling on overrun sounds terrible. What are BMW thinking!? :o

I've listened to Youtube videos of the 981 Cayman GTS which sounds great on power but then has this popping and banging on overrun.

I'm not a fan of that sound, especially when the engine under power sounds so good.

I went to the Nurburgring recently with my 911, and was impressed but with a manual and with that rear engine I had to really concentrate. I was overtaken at one point by a crazy brit (UK number plate) in a white M2 who dived inside me approaching a very fast corner and had to wipe a lot of speed off and he got himself all crossed up and I thought he was a goner, but it all sorted out in the end and he made it round.

They do look good those M2's, and look a great handling car.

I'm thinking about maybe chopping my 911 and going for an M2 as a daily driver and great all rounder, but it won't replace my Z4MC as a thrill a second drivers car! :)

this mapped in fake popping and banging thing is so s**t.... but the public like it , you only need to view SHMEE150 videos to see his reaction to ANYTHING that pops and bangs, give me a highly tuned engine that does this naturally and unintended any day, not your everyday mini cooper S etc etc

Audi are masters at fake cracks and pops. Half of Sydney seem to drive a bling A3 that farts on the overrun. It's ridiculous that people find it desirable when it's obviously a deliberate consequence of the map rather than an attribute of the state of tune of the engine.
