Normally when ordering a M2 at this moment, the waiting time in Europe is +/- one year… I had some unexpected luck with taking over a canceled order of someone else at my local BMW garage who could not get the finance deal covered. I could still configure the entire car and delivery is in 5-6 months (but definitely in 2016!).

Pretty exited and will be happy to drive another car, then 11 years in the same 325i touring (my current daily car). I love the chassis, the steering and the smooth 6 cylinder engine of my e46 325, but I think the M2 will be a very nice replacement that will make me forget the 325i. When not driving the M2...the Z4M is also in the garage for some kick ass steering and smooth NA engine feel in a topless body :)
Great news! I enquired about ordering last Monday and was told if ordering now it would be more like 2019 before you'd get the car :o and after driving that cooper S, I'd defo go manual again. So much fun! How I've missed it.
Maybe Top Gear pushed the sales even more...
Well unless everyone else saw the top gear episode shown on Sunday a week before it was on tv? I enquired the Monday before (20th June) so I highly doubt that!

It's more likely that dealers have filled up their allocations for the year and year or even years after. It may change as people pull out and go for something else.

I ordered a Mineral Grey M2 with a manual gearbox....and yes the Z4M roadster stays also…! :o
My garage is going to be awesome and I can hardly believe it
New school vs Old school....Coupe vs Roadster...Turbo vs NA....
M2 for daily traffic and some track.....Z4M for sun and fun and some track

Image

The M2 will start as a 100% daily driver (it replaces my daily driver 325i)....but I know myself and in time the M2 will probably evolve into daily driver & track and my Z4M will see less track time. The OEM suspension and OEM brakes (with BMW performance pads) are realy good compromise for street & track. The OEM M2 suspension feels almost as good as the PSS-10 on my Z4M. The M2 brakes are not the equally good as the AP's on my Z4M, but IMO with the right brake pads it's getting closer and they are way better then the standard brakes from the 1M and e92 M3.
Dude that isn't showing off, that's doing well..... fair play. I rate you for keeping the old school, she's a sound investment

I wanted a reason to visit the BMW dealership here, so I went and had a nosey around the M cars.
I do like the look of the M2 a lot, they had one in the dark grey, that would be my colour choice
Just browsing online now but I'm suprised there's no interior colour options. It's the one thing I didn't like about the one in the showroom, too much black.
The M4 interior was much nicer, it had tan coloured seats, which were quite what I'd go for but it was nice to break up all the black. The seats were much cooler too. The outside just feels too big though, I'd rather go all the way to the M5 if I wanted a big car.
Can the M4 seats fit in the M2?

A Z4M in the garage and an M2 daily driver looks like an awesome combo.

That's awesome, special cars for daily and weekend, although maybe you'll run the risk of running the M2 every day

It was the same story with the 1M! I think they do this for two reaons; Less choice keeps the building proces simpler and a bit cheaper for the M2. BMW needs to keep a decent price difference between the M4 to make the M2 attractive from a financial point of view. The M2 is a great car, but offcourse they stil want people to order a more expensive M4 with a lot of options. So BMW keeps a gap betweeen those two. People who want more options or more color choices can find their way to the M4. If we are only talking driving feel and driving experience it is obvious you will buy the M2 instead of the M4, but this is not always the case why people buy a certain car. There can be 50 other reasons why you want a certain car. BMW has to keep a gap between the M2 and M4 and still attract people to the M4. Giving M4 buyers way more options and the opportunity to spec their car more personal can all help to attract a potential M buyer (with more money) to the more expensive (but more individually specced) M4. On the M4 there are indeed more special things (carbon roof, special mirrors, carbon brakes, unique seats, etc)...it all makes sense why it is not on the M2. Still the interior of the M4 is lovely...and if the option of the M4 seats would be available on the M2 I would have ordered them! :)

100% correct that was my thought also...especially if the Z4M is a roadster and both cars are way different

The differce between the M2 and Z4M are big enough to keep the appeal of the Z4M. The Z4M will always have better steering feel, nicer engine response and the possibility to drive with the roof down. The M2 is a better, more confortable daily car that is faster and more modern then the Z4M. For me; the M2 can not replace my Z4M...my Z4M still feels more special and more unique to me.... The M2 is the perfect addition, not replacement. It is great that I can take both cars to the track if I want too and in 2017 this is going to be more the M2 then the Z4M.

Looking at the M4 seats, it seems the car I was looking at had the competition pack seats, much cooler looking.
If I were tempted enough to spend about £50k on the M2 I'd want to see if I could get my hands on a pair of them seats to make the interior feel a bit more special, even if it has to be all black

I think my second car will more likely be an E60 M5 though, an M2 would require selling the Z4

If you buy an M2 you need to sell your M2....I can understand this. But when buying an e60 M5 you can also keep your Z4M? Indeed the purchase of a used and cheap e60 M5 is 1/3 of the price of an new M2...
I hope you are aware of the big bills that are potentiely coming when driving a e60 M5 and that this car is known for absorbing a lot of money in repairs, fuel, maintenance, etc. The things that can go wrong on this car and the price it costs to fix this are in supercar territory. Every e60 M5 owner I know have sold their car berfore the money pit got to big. Yes that V10 engine is great...but I would never dare to buy one if money was an issue.

Fantastic choice Franzino, I have a deposit on an M2 (between that and a CP M4) with the same plan of having it as a daily and keeping the Z4MC as a weekend toy.
I will probably go for M DCT gearbox, it's very good once you're used to it and it makes sense to have a different experience to the Z4.

Have you had much of a test drive? I had one for a 24h test drive and reckon it's a fantastic car with a lot of character for something modern.
